Game Schedule breakdown
How we will be splitting up teams
What happens if I miss practice or am
late?
• Missed practices: Will only be excused by the coaches.
Players should discuss these situations ahead of time with
their coach.
• Unexcused Missed Practices:
– First Two Offenses- You will sit out the next scheduled game.
– Third offense- Off the team
• Late to practice: There will be a punishment in place before
the player can join the team for practice
– Usually in the form of running
– Example---10 minutes late, 10 lines of running before you can
join practice with your team.
– Usually you will fall in the depth chart for practice until you earn
your spot back.
What happens if I miss a game or am
late for a team activity on Gameday?
•
•
Missed games:
– Invitation to all-star games or school sponsored trips, family emergencies, etc.- excused, can resume playing spot
when you return to the team.
– Attending athletic, musical, drama camps, etc. You will sit out the next scheduled game upon your return.
– Gone for a family vacation- You will sit out the next scheduled game upon your return.
– Attend a church camp- You will sit out the next scheduled game upon your return.
– ***With any of the situations in 2-4, coaches will determine playing time after the player sits out 1 game.
– If the player is being outperformed by his replacement, the replacement will keep the position
• Coaches Discretion
Late for team activity on game-day w/o an excuse from your coach:
– 1st offense- sit a half
– 2nd offense- sit an entire game
– After 2nd offense, it starts over again.
– If the player is being outperformed by his replacement, expect the replacement to keep the position (Coaches
discretion)
*** Be responsible and make sure these things do not become an issue. Simple communication can cure all.
***Coaches will have your player communicate with you before the game so you are aware of why your athlete is not
playing due to an intervention.

Take pride in yourself- Everything you do should be to the best of your ability
Be coachable- we will never intentionally put you in a situation to fail. We have
been around the game our whole lives and have had good coaches ourselves. We
want to see you succeed. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have taken the job.

Expectations of the Parents
•
•
•
•
•
•
Be a support system for our program
– Offer to help out
– Come to your child’s games
Cheer for your child, don’t coach them
– Being an athlete as a teenager is a confusing time
– Let us coach them, if we preach something different from you, they have a tendency to get confused on who to listen
to.
Support the coach’s decision
– We see them every day in practice, games, and offseason
– We believe that we have a deep team this season, your child will be competing daily for playing time. Nothing is
guaranteed and won’t be by the coaching staff.
Be willing to help us with our fundraisers
– Youth tournament Saturday, November 14th
– Adrenaline fundraising
– Easy way to continue to get nice things for our program
Be a positive life line for your son
– We made huge strides last season in team chemistry, the defensive end of the court, and overall sustained effort on a
daily basis. We don’t need negativity around any part of our program. Try not to feed into the flame.
We care about your concerns, choose wisely when to approach us with an issue
– Please do not approach us after a game where emotions are running high
– Set up a meeting and we will gladly meet with you, and your player as a coaching staff with Mr. Birt if necessary
Practice Schedule
• Varsity/JV and Fresh/Soph will practice separate this
year
– We feel this will benefit the program from a competition
standpoint. The guys returning on varsity have been with
us for a couple years and are ready for complexity
– The Fresh/Soph will have their own practice, we still need
to work on terminology and fundamentals more at that
level, and our overall philosophy of the program
– 1st practice is November 16th---see the schedule
– Practice times will be as follows: (on most days)
• JV/V- 3:30-5:30 pm
• Fresh/Soph- 6:00-7:45am (Get the whole afternoon off to do
homework and be kids)
Game Schedule- JV/Varsity
• We play in the very competitive River Valley Conference and are
honored to do so!
– Games are on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
– We will play everyone in the North Division home and away, and
everyone in the South Division once
• (North Division- Northeast, Bellevue, Camanche, Cascade, Monticello, North
Cedar)
• (South Division- Wilton, West Liberty, West Branch, Regina, Durant, Tipton,
Mid-Prairie)
– Non conference games this year will be against:
• Prince of Peace, Cal-Wheat, DeWitt, and Easton Valley (possibly for the last
time)
– The conference will be a great test for us night in and night out but it
provides an opportunity to be battle tested by tournament time!
– (3 teams were ranked in our division alone last season)
Fresh/Soph Schedule
• Fresh/soph will be composed of both Freshman
and Sophomores who are not quite ready to
compete at the highest levels.
• At this level, we will have 21 games as well but
their games will not be on certain days of the
week. They will have a mix and match of what
days they play. They are listed on the calendar.
• We have tried to schedule games wherever and
whenever possible to get your child the most
experience possible.
What is the Rebel Way?
•
Our Belief System/Philosophy
–
Defense
•
–
Owning the glass (Rebounding)
•
–
We believe in playing so hard that we need a sub
Diving for every ball that is on the floor
Winning 50/50 balls
Team Concept
•
•
•
•
•
•
–
We believe in pushing the pace whenever possible and if we don’t get a shot, working for a good one. (Maybe running a
set)
Playing Hard
•
•
•
–
We believe in crashing the offensive and defensive glass. We want to limit 2nd chance points and get as many as we can
offensively
Playing fast
•
–
We play tough nosed man to man defense that is predicated on great ball pressure and help defense from multiple spots
on the floor. At times we will mix it up with a trapping 2-3 zone that will break up the rhythm of the opposing team and
force them into mistakes
Better not bitter---pushing each other to be the best team/individual that we can be.
High five every timeout
If someone dives on the floor we pick them up
We huddle on every dead ball
We genuinely cheer for our teammates on the bench, even if they play the same position as me
Win and lose together
Process
•
•
We don’t talk about winning a game or winning a championship, if we take care of the little things on a daily basis, the
scoreboard and the standings will take care of themselves.
We want to be playing our best basketball in our stretch run in February.
