Date tbc. Year 5/6 Football Report On Thursday 20th October Mr Andrews took a Year 5/6 football team to play a 7 a side football tournament at Rotherfield United FC. Overall, this saw the team win 16 points and achieve a goal difference of +18, a fantastic effort which saw us win the competition and bring the trophy back to Sonning Common! The team was: Rhys B, Ashley F, Cody J, Daniel G, Oliver H, Felix H, Tommy I, Albie W-M (all year 6), Max H, Lucas T and Joe M (all year 5). Parking: an ongoing saga One of our neighbours in Elm Court was blocked in their own drive again this week. On this occasion it was not only frustrating, but it could have been life threatening as the car blocked was an unmarked medical response vehicle. Please think carefully about where you park your car when dropping and collecting your child/ren from school. Unfortunately this happened again one morning this week, a number plate was taken and the police were informed and action will be taken. Study by Oxford’s Experimental Psychology Department Researchers from Oxford’s Experimental Psychology Department are carrying out a study on the development of memory and visual attention throughout childhood. Parents can bring their child (aged 7 - 12) to play fun memory games on a computer while we record their eye movements. In addition to afternoons after school during school term, we can also book times over the summer. During the visit, we tell children more about how the brain works! The whole activity will last approximately 2 hours. To express your interest in participating with your child or to learn more information, please email us at [email protected] with your name, your child's name and age, and a phone number to contact you to arrange a visit. By expressing an interest now you are not bound to participate in the study. Important note: although in general we also work with children who have difficulties paying attention, for this study we are in particular aiming to recruit children without a known neurological or learning disability. Do feel free to contact us if you would like further information, but you think your child might not qualify for inclusion. Space to learn, grow and be inspired www.sonningcommonprimary.co.uk If you would like to have any further information about the study please email me at [email protected] or alternatively, you can contact my project supervisor, Prof. Gaia Scerif ([email protected]), (+44 (0)1865 271403) This week's happy news: Miss Worlock says - Emma Geleta was the first person in Year 4 to get her pen licence! Woo hoo! Mr Poole says - Elon Musk invented solar roof tiles. It has got me excited for the future! Year 1 and 2 say - The children have really transitioned well into phonics. They have been wonderful! Kites - All the children managed to get dressed by themselves after P.E. this week. Well done. Fireworks Competition As one of the 20 finalists in the 2016 Fireworks Competition, Jake C in Kites, was invited this week to the prize giving at County Hall in Oxford. Jake was declared one of the two final winners out of 550 entries. Congratulations and a huge well done Jake!
