THS NETBALL SELECTION POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR 2017 OBJECTIVE: To select players with the qualities and competencies required to represent THS at the highest standard as required by the Player Code of Conduct. SELECTION POLICY: Players will be expected to trial within their year groups, e.g. Year 9 & 10s as the Junior group and Year 11, 12 and 13 as the Senior group. The exception to this: if a player is of an exceptional ability and displays mental and physical attributes capable of being selected in a higher year group, then this will be a consideration of TIC Netball, TIC Sport and the Coach involved. Each player is entitled to choose 2 playing positions and be trialled in those 2 positions at a minimum of 2 playing quarters for each of the 2 nominated positions. All players will be notified of trials and team selections via: school notices, newsletters, the school website and social media. All players must register their intention to trial prior to trial dates. Each team will usually comprise of 9 players, however the number of players may vary according to: the strength in number of teams and the number of players trialling. There will be a minimum of 2 trial dates set for each year group. Players can be removed from teams at any time if in the reasonable view of THS, they have displayed inappropriate behaviour or conduct, or an unsatisfactory attitude, or a lack of commitment, or noncompliance with training requirements or non-attendance. SELECTION PANEL: There will be a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 selectors for each year group trial . Depending on availability, it is recommended that at least 1 independent selector be invited to attend trials. The coach, in conjunction with TIC Netball and TIC Sport has the final decision on the selection of the team, after full consultation with the selection panel. Trials are open to players and selectors only, no parents or caregivers may be in attendnace The selection panel shall apply these competencies, qualities and considerations to the overall assessment of players: CORE PLAYING COMPETENCIES Sound quality of technical skills Displays a developing tactical awareness and understanding Show ability to use flair and innovation in their game Is committed to achieving and maintaining fitness required for their level of competition Shows a developing ability to sustain intensity in performance throughout the game CORE PERSONAL QUALITIES: Strong work ethic Shows discipline on and off the court Show ability to withstand pressure on and off the court Demonstrates team qualities and a readiness to listen, learn and apply learning Dedicated and committed to developing and maintaining the competencies required for this level of competition Versatility, consistency and adaptability Ability to serve as a role model for others CONSIDERATION MAY ALSO BE GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING FACTORS: Ability and willingness to fit within the team State of fitness, health and wellbeing Positional balance within the team Previous performance history The Selection policies and procedures are reviewed annually and may be altered to meet the needs of selections.
