0151 233 6914 Primary and Secondary Schools recycle Michael

Draft Letter to schools:
Dear Head-teacher,
I am writing from Liverpool’s Environmental Advocate Team (LEAT) to invite
you to take part in a primary and secondary schools competition entitled
‘Recycle Michael’. The competition aims to promote the importance of
recycling at home and at school. It is being launched by Mayor Joe Anderson
and Councillor Nick Small on 3rd March 2016.
The competition is very straight-forward. All the children need to do is make
a model using recycled materials and/or draw and colour a picture to
represent our new recycling icon ‘Recycle Michael’ (or is it Recycle Michelle
or Miguel. We welcome a little diversity). The accompanying briefing sheet
will provide you with a few ideas of the sorts of things the children may like to
draw and make but we are just as happy to leave it to their creativity and
imagination. Each school can send in up to ten (10) digital images of their
best models/drawings or a mixture of both.
Details of the entry process are included in the competition details attached
to this email.
Winners, judged by the Mayor, will receive a trophy made from recycled
material and all expenses paid trip to Gillmoss Discovery Centre (1 coach per
school). All participating schools will receive a certificate of participation and
a free recycling advice session, from the Liverpool Environmental Advocate
Team (LEAT).
The competition will run from the (3rd March to 1st June 2016), and whilst it is
not essential, we would be grateful if you would confirm your intention in
advance for your school to take part. This will also allow us to offer advice if
needed. The email address to send all correspondence to is:
[email protected]
We hope you agree this is a very worthwhile competition with a fantastic
prize, and we look forward to seeing your school’s entries.
Yours sincerely
Liverpool Environmental Advocate Team (LEAT)

Recycle Michael for primary and secondary schools. The aim of the competition is to

Recycle Michael Competition details

Your model should be made only of clean recyclable material (accepted in Liverpool City
Council recycling bins) e.g. paper, magazines, newspaper, junk mail, catalogues,
wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, egg boxes, cereal boxes, toilet or kitchen rolls inner

doubt check here http://liverpool.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/what-goes-in-my-bins/
Your model of Recycle Michael should encapsulate the ethos of the ‘four R’s’ Reducing,
Reusing, Recycling and Repairing, and should be no bigger than 150cm. Cello-tape, glue
and string etc. can be used to put the model together and it can be painted if you wish.
Your drawing of Recycle Michael can be on a large sheet of paper and doesn’t need to
resemble your model (children need to make them as colourful they can). These drawing
