"ABC, talk with me!" New learning experience: from digital to tangible! A new mobile app, developed by a team of programmers in Ukraine, uses augmented reality technology to help parents fight the battle against gadget-addiction and refocus their children's attention on interacting with a classic physical toy. Nowadays, 80% of children are perfectly familiar with digital technologies that improve their successful development. This issue is also very critical for a young team of ABC Talk with Me project, moreover its founders are young fathers – Maxim Ronshin and Dmitry Moiseenko and thus have already successfully tested this technology on their children, who enjoyed the benefits of the new learning reality. With the development of new technologies, many important activities became reduced to smartphone or tablet icons, including kid’s toys and games. But would you pretend that your childhood was too boring or dull with all those heaps of color Legos, wooden blocks and various toys?!! In contrast, child development is impossible without physical interaction with objects. Therefore, it was our idea of giving a happy childhood back to kids and reducing gadgets to the minor role of just an addition to the main types of cognitive and learning activities. "When I was a kid, there was no such thing as an iPad. My imagination grew by playing with blocks and physical toys" said creator Maxim Ronshin. "My kids were hooked on tablets while they were still nursing! I love technology, but it was heartbreaking to think of what they were missing." The task was to make physical toys, just regular ABC blocks, fun, entertaining and educational for a new generation of post-millennial technokids. After trying various combinations of physical and virtual and after lots of experimentation with actual kids - from different ages and different countries - they hit upon the ideal combination of entertainment and education. "It was also important for me that learning was a part of this. We weren't happy just with a simple game. We wanted it to be a full-sensory learning game for kids." By aiming a tablet or phone at a single ABC block, the new app converts the letter into a matching picture with animation and sounds. As children progress to the next level, constructing words with the blocks, cartoons appear before their eyes illustrating what they spell. Put together the letters d-o-g, for example, and a cute puppy jumps into your screen. Kids can practice their pronunciation by repeating after the narrator. The program comes included with a variety of games, which prompt kids to use their memory and to spell new words with their ABC blocks. The simplest level is for small kids: They pick up any ABC block, show it to the camera, and hear its pronunciation, repeating it after. The next game requires the child to find the letter mentioned on the screen. The third game shows only a picture and asks young learners to spell what they see. You can purchase the application and custom blocks in any of several languages: Ukrainian, Russian, English, and Italian. New languages are always being added The new app, ABC Talk with Me, is already winning fans, which is obvious from the comments section. The next goal is parlaying this popularity into a Kickstarter campaign, which will give away cool rewards like custom ABC blocks and other augmented reality tools. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1439746715/abc-talk-with-me-from-digital-totangible#abctalkwithme Stretch goals: 5,000 $ - Base funding reached 15,000 $ - Portable Magnet cards and whiteboards 20,000 $ -Additional free game - Google + Wikipedia + ABC Talk With Me!
