Frequently Asked Questions about CSA (new league) 1. What is CSA? CSA stands for California Swimming Association. It is a new league consisting of 8 teams from Pacific Swimming. Teams will compete against each other in dual meets (7 dual meets total). The season will end with a Championship Meet in December for those who qualify. 2. Who is in this league? West Coast Aquatics, Seaside Aquatic Club, Quicksilver Swimming, Valley Splash, Mission San Jose Aquatics, Burlingame Aquatic Club, Sunnyvale Swim Club, and Dana Kirk Swimming (PASA) 3. What do membership fees cover? These collected fees will cover all of the costs incurred in creating, developing, and implementing a new league of this magnitude; including, development and support of an Association website which will keep current best times of each swimmer in every event category, an Age Group Leader Board throughout the season, a platform which will help to manage our meets and swimmers during the season, meet management, equipment/ pool rental, Championship Meet management and Awards, and a Seasonal High Point Champion Award and recognition, and other expenses involved with running these USA Swimming Sanctioned events. 4. What are the membership fees? You will discover that there are two separate membership fees, but in order to commit our entire team to the Association there is not an option and/or preference regarding your type of membership. Membership specifications were determined by the Association and by our coaches. The breakdown for our team, by group is as follows: Meet fees are $25.00 for a single day dual meet and $40.00 for a double dual meet (only one double dual per season). $40/swimmer for those who qualify for championships. 5. When and how do I pay? Pay the meet fees when you enter the meet through your team unify account on the WEST Coast Aquatics website. 7. What about the other meets we used to attend? During the fall season our emphasis will be 100% team effort at our home CSA meets and 100% effort. We are excited that instead of attending many meets, splitting up coaching staff and families, we will all be at meets together, building our motivation and excitement for and with one another. For our 14-under Junior Olympic Qualifiers, we will still attend that meet (Dec. 6-8). The seniors in SR. Silver & Gold will also continue to attend SR. meets such as the Husky meet. 8. I have heard our team needs more officials to help work at these meets. Is this true? Yes, and thank you for asking. We do need officials (white shirt folks seen at edge of pool during a meet). Please see the team manager and one of devoted officials Guiselle Morrone for information or email her at [email protected] 9. Doesn’t running a meet take a lot of work? Running a meet does take team effort. For every home meet we will be asking for volunteers. It takes everyone to make the effort easy. Each home meet will have signups online at our website and when we travel we expect to help there as needed. 10. What time will these meets begin? And how long do we expect them to run? For all home meets--warm-ups will begin at 7:30 am and the meet begins at 9 am. Travel meet times may vary a little and we will tell you in advance. We expect meets to run several hours and be done mid-afternoon. 11. Who will participate from WEST? All team members and groups need to participate in these meets for this league. These are team scored meets that the entire team needs to participate in. There will be relays for each meet as well as individual events. Your swimmer will be asked to compete in the relays as well. 12. Scoring Each meet will be scored by event and will be tabulated on the league website ( www.swimcsa.com ). You will be able to follow the progress of every swimmer and every team on the CSA League website including the top scores of the league. At the end of the season there will be awards for the top teams in the league including team awards for the dual meet champions and conference champions. That is why it is important that every swimmer and family attend as many if not all of the dual meets this season. Our team has a great chance of placing very high in the conference if we bring a big meet attendance the entire season! 13. Conference Championships This league will emulate the NCAA format. We want our swimmers to get used to swimming at the collegiate level. All events will be in the order of the NCAA Championships. The conference championships will be for swimmers that qualify through the dual meets. The championship meet will be professionally run, (possibly indoors), and will parade the top 8 swimmers in finals with music and name announcements just like most national level meets. The location and qualification standards are still in the process of being secured, as soon as there is more information, it will be posted here and relayed through the swimmers. We will add additional questions and answers as they arise.
