SWAMPBALL TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS

Teams will be seeded in the order they signed up.
The 16 highest ranked teams will advance to the final play.
There will be two initial rounds of randomly seeded play. Teams with two wins will automatically
advance to the finals. Teams with one win and one loss will have their two scores added together
and the teams with the highest combined scores will advance to the final play.
Final play will be a single elimination style bracket with teams wining both games in the initial
rounds being seeded highest using their combined scores. Then, teams with one win will be seeded
after using their combined scores.
All players must sign a liability wavier.
Each team must appoint a team captain who will serve as spokesperson for their team.
Every team is required to provide two large rolls of duct tape.
Team check in is between 9:00-9:45 AM on September 26, 2015. Any team not checked in by
9:45 AM may not be allowed to play.
Every participant must be wearing tennis shoes covered with duct tape before entering a pit.
Wearing tall socks is highly recommended during the tournament.
No roster changes will be accepted after the tournament begins.
The tournament bracket will be posted at the officials’ table along with court assignments and
game numbers. The bracket may change without notice.
Every team will be called with an appropriate amount of time before each match; games will start
immediately upon conclusion of the previous.
In the case of rain, money will only be refunded in accordance with rain policy. If the tournament
is postponed due to a rain delay and a team chooses to leave, they will not get a refund.
All concerns during the event can be brought to a UNO Ambassador, who will direct you to the
Swampball Chair or Ambassador advisor.
Team captains are responsible for the actions of their team members in and out of the pit. This
includes, but is not limited to, sportsmanship and knowledge of the rules.
Swampball is an alcohol and drug free event, and player or spectator suspected of use these
substances will be asked to leave the event, and the team will be disqualified from the event.

To start each game one member from each team will come to the net and play Rock, Paper,
Scissors. The winner of the game will serve first.
The game will consist of two 6 minutes halves. The time starts after the first serve. If time runs
during a volley, the volley will continue until a team is awarded the point.
At the six-minute mark, the teams will switch sides of the pit. The second half starts after the next
serve.
Up to six players may be in the pit at any given time. Alternates may rotate in when your team
regains position of the serve or injury.
Games will use a rally point scoring, where a point is awarded on every volley.
The winner is the team with the most points when time is called.
Referees’ decisions are final, but can be appealed to the decision of the Swampball Co-Chairs. If a
call is appealed, time will stop for an official time-out.
Unsportsmanlike conduct, including obscene language and behavior towards anyone will not be
tolerated and may result in a warning, loss of game, or disqualification from the tournament based
on the severity.

Each team will be given one 30-second timeout per game. Official timeouts may be called by the
referee, pit captain, or Swampball Co-Chairs.
If a game is tied during regular play the teams will play for an additional 3 minutes. The team with
the most points after that time will win. Additional overtimes will be added until there is a winner.
Championship game will have two 8-minute halves. Two 30-second timeouts will be given to each
team for the game.
Players must wait for the official’s whistle to serve.
Points- A team scores a point:
a. when the ball touches water on the opponent’s side.
b. when the opponent team commits a fault.
Faults- A point and service shall be given to the opposing team when:
a. the ball does not successfully cross the net.
b. a player hits the ball twice consecutively.
c. a team touches the ball more than three times, unless the first time was a block, before
returning the ball to the opposing team.
d. the ball lands out of bounds on the opponent’s side. (water doesn’t splash)
e. the ball comes to rest in a player’s hands.
f. a player reaches over the net, except on the follow through of a spike.
g. a player spikes with two hands.
STUDENT ORGS WITH MULTIPLE TEAMS ADDENDUM
1. One person shall be responsible for collecting the money and paperwork for all of the teams the
organization has, this player will also act as the captain of team one.
2. All players, with the exception of at-large players, must remain on the team that the signed up with,
even if other players must leave.
