Denver’s system for electronic permits (e-permits) is robust,
with new features to be rolled out over time.
The system is powered by a nationwide technology vendor
that is also used by many neighboring jurisdictions in the
metro area.
Whether you have used online permitting before or this is
your first time, please familiarize yourself with this guide
and keep it handy for future reference.
• Use Internet Explorer as your web
browser. Other browsers may work,
but not as well.
Tips
• Enable pop-ups
• Have your official contractor’s license
on hand for your initial account set-up.

Adding a
Contractor’s
License to
your Account
• To apply for permits and schedule
inspections via e-permits, you must
have a valid contractor’s license in
Denver for the type of work covered
under the permit.
• Linking your contractor’s license to an
e-permits account is simple.
Adding a Contractor’s License to your Account
From any page in epermits, click “Account
Management” at the top
of your screen.
• This will take you to the
“Manage your Account”
page shown here.
License.”
•
Once your license is
added, it will show here
under “License
Information.”
Adding a Contractor’s License to your Account
continued
•
Select which license type you hold.
•
Then, enter your license number
exactly as it appears on your
license card, including “LIC” and
any zeroes.
 Examples: “LIC001234” or
“LIC12345”
 Don’t add zeroes if the license # on
your card does not have any.
Click “Find License,” then verify
that the license shown is correct
and click “Connect” under the
“Action” column.
Confirm there is a valid email on file for your
license. Notifications of account activity
under your license will be emailed to this
address, and it cannot be edited in e-permits.
For Added
Security
• If you are unsure, contact Contractor Licensing at
720-865-2770 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (M-F).
• To add or change an email address, an
owner/officer for the licensed company must
submit a signed letter stating the change to be
made. The letter can be emailed to
[email protected] or dropped off in
person. Note that this letter must be signed, so if it
is emailed, it must be an attachment with a visible
signature. Typed signatures are not accepted.
• After adding your license to your epermits account, go to “My Records”
(located on the “Home” tab).
Pro Tip
• The “My Records” page automatically
populates with all permits under your
license, allowing you to easily check
permit status or schedule inspections.
Creating Permit Collections
One of the easiest ways to add permit records to a collection is to go to the “Development Svcs”
tab and search for your project’s address. Then, select the checkboxes next to the permit records
you want to group, and click “add to collection.”
Access collections from your dashboard
(located on the “Home” tab).
Search for permit
records by address.
Select records and click “add to collection.”
Applying for a Permit
• Don’t waste time and money applying for an epermit for work that cannot yet be permitted
online.
Pro Tip
• FIRST, go to www.denvergov.org/quickpermits
and review the types of work listed there. This
is the work that can be permitted via e-permits.
Exceptions:
• Landmarks/historic districts. All exterior work in
an area locally designated for preservation must
apply for a Landmark review first, and cannot go
through e-permits. Use the DevelopDenver map
at denvergov.org/DS to check historic status.
• Homeowners applying for their own permits.
Homeowners must apply for a quick permit in
person and show a valid ID.
Applying for a Permit – the Online Application
Click on the “Development Svcs” tab and choose “Apply for a Permit.”
On the screens that follow, select the license associated with your account that will be used
for this permit, and then choose the type of permit for which you are applying:
•
Boiler and
Commercial A/C
•
•
Electrical
Mechanical
•
•
Plumbing
Roofing and Siding
If a general construction permit has already been issued for your project, do not apply for
a new permit. Instead, go to "My Records" under the "Home" tab, find the correct permit
record and click through from there to pay permit fees and print your permit.
The “save” button is located at the bottom of every page:
Applying for a Permit – the Online Application
Complete each page of the application, paying attention to the instructions
for each field. Click the help icon (
) for longer instructions on some items.
Email address. On page 3 of
the application, make sure
the email address associated
with the “Applicant” is
correct.
Your permit will be emailed to
this address.
Once you add an applicant,
click “edit” to change the
email or phone number for
this application.
Applying for a Permit – Paying and Printing
Once you have finished the online application, continue to the payment screen. Discover,
MasterCard, and Visa cards are accepted. Fees are based on your valuation of the work. You
may be asked to pay additional fees if inspectors later determine the valuation is incorrect.
Printing your permit (permits must be posted at the job site)
1) You will receive an emailed copy of your permit after payment is processed, or
2) From the Payment Receipt screen (shown on the left below), click “Back to Permit Center” to
return to e-permits, then select the permit record from “My Records” (located on the “Home” tab),
and print your permit from the “Reports” drop-down at the top of your screen.
•
TIP: Make sure you have enabled pop-ups.

Scheduling Inspections
To schedule an inspection, click the
“Development Svcs” tab and then either:
A.
Select the permit record from your
“My Records” list (which will
populate after your contractor’s
license has been added to your epermits account)
or
B.
Search for the permit. Type the
permit number in the Record
Number box and hit search.
Scheduling Inspections – continued
Within the online permit
record, open the drop-down
box labeled “Record Info”
and click on the
“Inspections” link.
To schedule, click “Schedule
or Request an Inspection”
and follow the software
prompts. Make sure to add
comments (like a contact
phone number) to your
inspection request before
you hit “finish.”
