Youth Policy

To be applied in conjunction with the ECB’s “Safe Hands” Policy
Child Protection Policy Statement:
Bedminster Cricket Club is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment
for children and young people to practice and play cricket.
We do this by:







Recognising that all children have the right to freedom from abuse.
Ensuring that all officials, coaches and volunteers are carefully selected and accept
responsibility for helping to prevent the abuse of children in their care.
Ensuring that all qualified and unqualified coaches, team managers and assistant managers
are screened by CRB.
Responding swiftly and appropriately to all suspicions or allegations of abuse, and providing
parents and children with the opportunity to voice any concerns they may have.
Appointing at least one Child Welfare Officer who will take specific responsibility for child
safety and act as the main point of contact for parents, children and outside agencies.
Ensuring access to confidential information is restricted to the Child Protection Officer of
the appropriate external authorities.
Reviewing the effectiveness of our Child Protection Policy and activities each year at an
Executive Committee Meeting of the Club.
Child Welfare
Bedminster Cricket Club adopts in principle the ECB Child Welfare Policy. Our Child Welfare
Officer is: Chris Giles.
Code of Conduct for Club Officials and Volunteers
The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All club officials and
volunteers must:








Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.
Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and
respect.
Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking
part.
Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play)
Display consistently high standards of behavior and appearance.
Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club.
Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.
Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.
Code of Conduct for Parents/Carers
Encourage your child to learn the rules and spirit of cricket and play within them.



Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
Never force your child to take part in sport.




Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all.
Publicly accept officials' judgements.
Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
Use correct and proper language at all times.
Equity Policy
This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development.
In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of Sports Equity





Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and
taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure
that it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.
The Club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone
equally within the context of their sport regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity,
religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
The Club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment
free from intimidation, harassment and abuse.
All Club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and to promote
equality of opportunity.
The Club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to
Club disciplinary procedures.
Youth Club Rules
Bedminster Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all its
members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents
associated with the club should, at all times, show respect, encourage to be open at all times and to
share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with either Chris
Giles, Youth Secretary & Child Welfare Officer, or one of our qualified ECB coaches.
As a member of Bedminster Cricket Club are expected to abide by the following club rules:





All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions
All members must respect opponents
All members agree to timings for training and competitions and will inform my coach or
team manager if I am going to be late
All members must wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the
coach/team manager
All members must pay any fees for training or events promptly
Junior members will not smoke, consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises
or whilst representing the club at competitions
Missing Children Policy
The club will follow the procedures in the ECB’s “Safe Hands” Policy should a child under the
responsibility of the Club go missing.

Parents/Carers are responsible for the safe transportation of children to and from cricket
matches and training sessions.
 Coaches and Club Members will be responsible for the children in their care when on the
Club premises or on arrival at opponents’ cricket grounds or at other training facilities, at
times when their parents are not present.
Should a parent/carer arrive late to pick up a child, a minimum of 2 adults, coaches or club
members will wait with the child until a parent/carer arrives.
Changing Room/Shower Policy
Separate changing facilities will be provided for the mixed gender teams. Adults will not share
changing facilities with children. If children play in adult games, the following rules will apply:



Consent will be sought from parents’ if adults and children need to share a changing facility.
Adults should try to change at separate times to children.
Mobile phones must not be used in changing rooms when children are present.
Health and Safety
The health and safety of youth teams is covered by the Health and Safety Policy of the Club.
