Piddle Valley CEVC First School

JUNE JAMBOREE &
The Future of our PTA
Thank you to those that attended the meeting on Monday in support of the PTA.
It was great to see you there and I am pleased to say we have received some
volunteers to establish a PTA for September 2017, a massive thank you.
The stall holder lists are coming together for the Jamboree and arrangements
are well under way. However we welcome all help available so if you haven’t
signed up for a stall yet please see Claire Doyle, Ali Carless or Hannah Roberts,
who will be selling raffle tickets after school after half-term.
We have had a great number of jars and items for the tombola/raffle this
morning. Please keep them coming after half term!
Thank you
Mermaids and Pirates
The Sun has got his
Hat on – Hip, hip,
hip hooray!
Rehearsals are under way for this summer’s play and
with that come the preparations for the set and
costumes.
Rachel Senior would like a shout out to those mums in
Woodpeckers who could kindly make up a working
party to create the ‘Sea Creature’ costumes for the
Year 1’s. If you are able to help in any way please
could you let the office know or see Rachel around
school. There are also other things to be done so if
anyone can help please let Rachel know.
Slip, slap, slosh!!
Please could we remind
parents to send their
child in with a clearly
labelled sun hat and
apply sun tan cream if
necessary before the
start of the school day.
Many thanks
FIDGET SPINNERS
We have decided after a two week trial period that fidget spinners are best left at home!
There will be occasions when they will be permitted in school but this will be to support
individual pupils which are the original intention of the spinner. During these occasions the
resource will be supervised by a member of staff and not just for free use.
Thank you for your support.

A message from Mrs Browne…
Have a super half term break everyone. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine and we can get
outdoors! This half term has seen the children involved in a number of DASP sporting activities
including the Year 3 athletics and the Dorchester Swimming association event – well done
everyone who took part. Mr Dailey, our DASP sports leader is hoping to come into school for a
special assembly. The school recently had our Siam’s inspection to assess our Christian
distinctiveness. I am very pleased and proud to let you know that we have been awarded a grading
of ‘good’. This is a pleasing achievement in light of the changes to Ofsted grading and the criteria to
achieve the different grades. The Siams report is available for you to read on the school website.
 Well done to Johnny Orr for raising an incredible amount of money in aid of Shelter following
a five mile run. Great charity work Johnny! Please look on the website for the newspaper
report outlining Johnny’s achievement.
 Congratulations to Jessica Old for completing the ‘Duckling’ stage and for moving into the
next stage at her swimming lessons!
 Henry Carless has been awarded third place in the Rainbow Swim Academy and will be
awarded his trophy in June at a special ceremony. Wow that’s great news Henry!
