ICT/Computing Department Information Staffing Four full time teachers Responsibilities within the ICT/Computing Department The Head of ICT/Computing (also Head of Faculty) The Head of ICT/Computing is responsible for the vision and ethos of the area, curriculum and examination policy, monitoring standards of teaching and learning, liaison with senior leaders, staff issues (including staff development), finance and discipline of students. Lead Teacher for Computer Science is responsible for monitoring standards of teaching and learning in computer science, the organisation of computer science schemes of work, liaison with Learning Managers, advising the Head of ICT/Computing on resourcing and curriculum development, and assisting the Head of ICT/Computing as reasonably required to do. Curricular Policy (as of September 2017) a) Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8) • Students spend one lesson a week studying ICT/Computing b) Key Stage 4 (Years 9 - 11) Students study for six lessons in a fortnight in Year 9 Students study for six lessons in a fortnight in Year 10 • Students study for six lessons in a fortnight in Year 11 c) Years 12 and 13 • Timetable provision is eight lessons per fortnight in Year 12 and 13. Setting In all Year groups students are taught in mixed ability groups. Courses At Key Stage 4 there are currently three different courses offered: Edexcel ICT GCSE is offered as an option subject (last cohort will be Year 11 in September 2017). Edexcel Computer Science GCSE is also offered as an option subject Edexcel BTEC First Award in Information and Creative Technology is being offered from September 2017 in Years 9 and 10. At Key Stage 5 there will be four different courses running from 2017: A Level Computer Science (First cohort in Year 12 from September) AQA A Level ICT (In year 13). Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in IT Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT Examination The Department has a record of examination success at all levels and has sent many students on to higher education. We are currently in the top 10% of providers nationally at Key Stage 5 for vocational courses. Our GCSE ICT results last year were 79% A*-C and our BTEC First Award results were 100% A*-C equivalent. This is a success record that has been consistent over time. Departmental Accommodation • A suite of four specialist classrooms each offering 30 PCs and printing facilities. • All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and speakers. • All full-time staff have their own teaching room.
