Australian Curriculum Online – Hunters and Collectors Instructions: Using this checklist will give you an opportunity to have a quick browse through the essential features of the Online Australian Curriculum. Tick each step as you go to record your journey and record any questions that come to mind. STEPS What to do Start Locate and open the Australian Curriculum Online website? http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/Home Step 1 Hover over the Curriculum tab to view your options. The curriculum can be accessed via a particular learning area or a particular year level. Selecting a learning area view will enable you to filter and view multiple year levels within the selected learning area. Selecting a year level view will enable you to filter and view multiple learning areas within the selected year level. Step 2 The following steps (2- 12) explore the curriculum through a selected learning area. To begin select a learning area. Locate and read Rationale. Step 3 Locate and read Organisation. Identify the Content Strands and/ or Proficiency Strands. How are these similar/ or different to the organisation of the NTCF? Step 4 Locate and read the Content descriptions and Content elaborations. How is this curriculum terminology different to that used in the NTCF? Step 5 English – Locate Relationships between strands from the left hand navigation menu. Click to access. If you were asked to share the key message about the relationship between the strands – what would you say?’ Maths – Locate the Proficiency Strands. How many proficiency strands are there and how might you ensure they are part of your maths teaching and learning plans? √ when located Record your Questions here. Step 6 English: Locate and select the Foundations to Year 10 Curriculum tab This will take you to the English curriculum content. OR Maths: Locate and select the Foundations to Year 10 Curriculum tab. This will take you to the mathematics curriculum content. Step 7 Locate the Filters Area. (This is the same in each learning area.) Use the drop down menus to; a) View and select Year Levels b) View and select strands c) View and select General Capabilities d) View and select Cross-curriculum priorities To activate filters click on What do you notice about the changes to the Content Descriptions as you apply the filters? Do this a couple of times changing the filter selections - to explore the changing view of the curriculum this provides. Step 8 Find the tabs - . These are located below the Apply filter tab. 1) Click and hover on the Show tab. This allows you to select show content descriptions, show achievement standards and show tags. Select these to see how the view of the curriculum changes. 2) Click on the Download tab. This area will enable you to select and download and save sections of the curriculum as a PDF document. This is also where you will find the Scope and Sequence charts and the glossary. Once you have downloaded the selected content, you can print it. Note: The Australian Curriculum is intended to be an online curriculum – this allows it to be updated and improved over time. Teachers downloading PDF copies of the curriculum will need to keep checking the online curriculum to ensure they have the latest version. Step 9 English: Clicking on each one will change your view of the content descriptions. What changes do you notice to the layout of the curriculum? How might this be a useful tool? What changes do you notice to the layout of the curriculum? How might this be a useful tool? Step 10 Take some time now to browse the Content Descriptions beginning with the Year Level Descriptions. Locate elaborations by clicking on the code at the end of each content description e.g. (ACELT1602) Symbols are used to identify General Capabilities and Cross Curriculum Priorities. English: Maths: Step 11 Investigate the Achievement Standards located below the content descriptions. Click on ‘Read full description’ to view the entire Achievement Standard for each year level. See the Year 4, 5, 6 examples below. As you explore the achievement standards are you able to identify the knowledge, skills and understandings students will be required to demonstrate to achieve each year level standard. Step 12 Locate the Work Samples - at the end of the achievement standards. An example of what these look like is provided below. Click to investigate.
