PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Thank you for joining us for our final show of the 2006-2007 season,
Little Shop of Horrors. This has been one of our best ever seasons and we
hope this last show entertains you as much as our first two shows. I know
you will have a great time.
Over the last 19 years, FRC has entertained many thousands of theatre
lovers, just like you. We hope you enjoy this show as much as we love
bringing it to the stage. Our actors, musicians, stage management,
production team and our extensive volunteer support staff are all key
components of our theatre, but without your continued support, all their
hard work would be in vain. I applaud and thank you.
Les Sorenson
President - Front Row Centre Players

DIRECTOR’S NOTES
When one works in theatre, one is often surrounded
by divas… fortunately with this show they’re a rarity.
I’ve been lucky to work with an amazing team of
actors, directorial team and production crew that
are amazing, that keep their senses of humour during
high-stress times and are able to deal with various
different unexpected details that come at them
from oddball directions.
However, there is one diva that we’ve all had to deal
with – one with which all productions of Little Shop
of Horrors inevitably must contend. The kicker is
that this one can’t act and has no stage presence
whatsoever. At least, not until talented people
prompt, shove, cajole and speak on this diva’s behalf.
Who is this diva? Audrey II.
The biggest, greenest (with just a touch of purple) diva ever to step foot on a stage.
Little Shop of Horrors is, at its core, a puppet show based on an old, cult movie from
decades past. Turned into a remarkable creature of the stage in the 1980s by the
pre-Disney team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, it became a perennially
popular film a few years later. It’s been a crowd-pleaser ever since. And the four
puppets that create the illusion of ravenous diva Audrey II are no little part of its
success.
Little Shop is a sweet love story, a satire of horror movie conventions, an over-thetop ethnic comedy, a low-brow piece of vaudeville and a compilation of continually
memorable music. And it’s being brought to life by an amazing team of which I am
so, so proud to be a part. It’s been an amazing and truly enjoyable experience, from
the music to the choreography, the acting to the lighting, sound, various special
effects and an amazing stage management team to all the other people whom I
would like to mention here if the space existed. Their names are found elsewhere in
this program. Take a look for them, and give ‘em thanks for making this show.
Have fun – that’s what this evening and this show are about. Leave with a smile on
your face and a couple tunes jiggling in the back of your head. Tell others about this
show, encourage them to see it and other offerings Calgary’s rich community
theatre provides. Then go home to your own gardens, basking in the experience. BUT
– and I can’t stress this enough – when you return to your gardens – whatever they
offer you, don’t feed the plants.
We’ll have tomorrow!

THE MAIN COURSE
Dave Gagnier (Seymour Krelborn)
Dave is feeling very fortunate to be a part of this Little Shop of
Horrors team. Previous credits include: 12 Angry Men, One Flew Over
the Cuckoo's Nest and It's a Wonderful Life (echo37), The Pirates of
Penzance and The Glass Menagerie (Morpheus Theatre), Seussical!
And Beauty & the Beast (StoryBook Theatre), and How to Succeed In
Business Without Really Trying (FRC). Thanks to Dan, Marcello and
Cappuccino Musical Theatre for introducing me to Seymour 10 years
ago. Thanks to Levon for the inspiration and teamwork and to the cast
and crew for all of the fun. Most of all, thanks to Stephanie, my
family, and all of my true friends who have seen me through a fun 10
years of theatre in Calgary. It's been fun. Enjoy the show.
Levon Yon (Seymour Krelborn)
Levon was last seen as the man in the battlepants - Che in FRC's
production of Evita. He's also had the opportunity to play great roles
with FRC such as Judas in JCS and the Leading Player in Pippin. He
wants to thank FRC for continuing to cast him in their shows...because,
as he said while participating in a kids gameshow when he was 12,
"(He's) not a very funny guy". He feels extremely honoured (and
humbled) to have been able to work with such a talented group of
people in the Little Shop cast, crew and band.
Christine Horne (Audrey)
Christine is having the time of her life doing her favourite things –
working with wonderfully giving and talented people, learning fun
music, and performing. Sharing the stage with a gigantic carnivorous
plant is just a bonus! Other shows for FRC include "Company"
(Jenny), "Kiss Me Kate" (Kate), "A New Brain" (Rhoda), and "Evita"
(Eva Peron). Special thanks to Joey, Mary Anne, Wilma and Karen,
our fabulous fearless leaders, and, as always, to Terry and my boys
for coming to watch Mom's play – again.
Carl Bishop (Mr. Mushnik )
This is Carl's very first show. In fact he only started acting a few
weeks ago, but thanks to his well honed skills in time travel you may
have seen him in previous FRC shows such as Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye
Birdie and Kiss Me Kate. He looks forward to doing many more shows
with FRC and a few with William Shakespeare a few centuries ago.
Thanks for coming to see our show and always remember...Save the
Cheerleader, Save the World.

THE MAIN COURSE
CONT…
Lindsay Robertson (Orin)
Lindsay has been on stage for the better part of 13 years. This is his
second show here in Calgary (Pied Piper WOO HOO!) He has played
roles such as Curly in Oklahoma!, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, The
Wolf/ Prince in Into the Woods, Jim in The Glass Menagerie, and
Bigglewump in Pied Piper. Lindsay is starting school at the Canadian
College of Performing Arts in September. He is so excited and
honored to be on stage with this amazingly talented cast and
especially honored to be on stage with his cousin Levon.
"There are no small roles....just small actors"
MEAN, GREEN
AND
HUNGRY!!
Chris Willott (Voice of Audrey II)
To quote the eminently quotable 'Clue' movie:
Mrs. White: "Are you a cop?"
Mr. Green: "No, I'm a plant."
Miss Scarlet: "A plant? I thought men like you were usually called a fruit."
Mr. Green: "Very funny."
As an actor, Chris always thought that if he were to play a vegetable
it would be in a drama like 'Awakenings' or 'While You were Sleeping'.
Alas! This was not to be. Instead, He is much more lively, much more
green, and his bed pan is more of a pot. Oh yeah, and if anyone makes
any 'fruit' references, he'll dismember you and eat you for lunch.
Enjoy the show!
Andrea Vander Neut – Audrey II Puppeteer
Andrea is thrilled to be working with FRC! After completing a degree
in Theatre Studies (Collective Creation) at York University Andrea
moved to Calgary to start her career as an interpreter. Happy to be
on stage again - as plant guts, Andrea would especially like to thank
Brenda for teaming this one so she could do the show and go to
Juilliard for the second half of the run. It's been a blast! Note: No
muppets were harmed in the making of this production.
Brenda Goyetche – Audrey II Puppeteer Understudy
A graduate of John Abbott College's (Montreal) Professional Theatre
Design Program, Brenda has been involved in the theatre for over 10
years. Her most recent experience as a set, costume, lighting and
sound designer include Misery, Marion Bridge, The Nutcracker: a play
and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Brenda was nominated for and
ACTCO award for her costume design for Scarborough Players
Production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. This is Brenda's first
production with FRC and she is thrilled to be part of the team.
Thanks Andrea for thinking of asking me to be the Audrey2
Understudy!

THE APPETIZERS
Krista Vander Neut (Crystal)
Krista is ecstatic to be working on another show with FRC. You may
have seen her in other FRC productions dancing and singing up a storm
Hair, Cabaret, Kiss Me Kate or at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in
Eating Raoul or playing Columbia in Rocky Horror Picture show. If you
haven't seen her in a while it's because she is studying away at the
University of Lethbridge but she is almost done and will be a teacher
by Christmas (scary isn't it). Krista says that besides working with
Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in
Toronto, Little Shop of Horrors is by far her favourite show so far.
Krista would like to thank her H2B Christopher Willott her Sister
Andrea (the plant guts) and her Mom because with out them, she
wouldn't be here.
Heather Oystryk (Ronnette.)
Heather has been performing since the age of 4. She has worked with
many different theatre companies across Canada, such as Live Bait
Theatre, The Annapolis Royal Theatre Company, The Acadia Theatre
Company, NoSco Theatre, Storybook Theatre and Front Row Centre
Players. Some of her favorite parts include Jennie (Guilty, the Story
of the Great Amherst Mystery), Gypsy Woman /Dance Captain (Under
the Night), Yvette (Mother Courage), Cecily (The Importance of Being
Earnest), Cecily (Travesties), Jean (Nappely) and Harlequin
(Pinocchio). Heather teaches drama (among other things) in Calgary,
and can be heard singing with her band 4 Stories High.
Lyndsey Paterson (Chiffon)
Lyndsey couldn't be more thrilled than to be back on stage singing in
Little Shop! Oh the Memories! Thank you so much for the opportunity
to be a part of such a great cast and show! Also, thanks for the
support to all friends and family, you know who you are, love you all!
And thanks to "my agent!" *winkwink* Hope everyone has fun
watching the show! Oh, and please send all floral arrangements to the
stage door, they'll know what to do.

THE GARDENERS
Joey Sayer - Director
It is easy being green. Little Shop of Horrors is Joey’s fifth show directed for FRC…
previously, Cabaret, Eating Raoul, Pippin and Hair: the American Tribal Love/Rock Musical.
For other companies, shows have included Ruthless! The Musical for Curtain Call
Productions and WEX, The International Stud and Torch Song Trilogy for White Rose
Theatre Guild. He acted – God help us all – a few times as well… “Eddie/Dr. Scott” in The
Rocky Horror Show (Front Row Centre), “Hooded Fang” in Jacob Two-Two Meets the
Hooded Fang (Storybook Theatre) and “Noun” in Adventure on the Planet Grammar (Ecole
Colonel Forbes) – Eat your heart out, Schoolhouse Rock!
Mary Anne Wilson – Music Director and Synthesizer
Mary Anne has enjoyed every minute of the Little Shop experience! Over the past few
years, she has been Music Director for Jacob Two-two Meets the Hooded Fang, and The
Mikado, as well as co-Music Director for Trial by Jury and HMS Pinafore, and was
Assistant Music Director for The Gondoliers. She would like to thank everyone in this
wonderful cast, production team, musicians and crew – you people are all amazing!
Darren Stewart – Producer, FOH and Publicity
This is Darren's second foray into the administrative side of Front Row Centre. After
several years of limelight, he was surprised at how entertaining the "dark side" of
theatre could be. Thanks to a great crew, to Les Sorenson and to Erin for her support.
Jennifer Underhill (Stage Manager)
Jennifer is pleased to be part of the stage management team of FRC for the 2007
season. She called Oklahoma from the booth, stage managed the blockbuster hit Chicago,
and now lends her abilities to stage managing Little Shop of Horrors. Her previous forays
into stage management have been with Storybook Theatre (Seussical the Musical, Beauty
and the Beast, and others) and Morpheus Theatre (Lend Me a Tenor). Jennifer would like
to thank the production team, crew and cast for being so flexible and fun to work with!
Paul Hilton – Lighting Design
This show will be Paul's 10th for Front Row Centre. He has also designed for Workshop
Theatre, the Liffey Players, Morpheus Theatre, Broad Minds/The Shakespeare Co. and
the Bonavista Players. His lighting designs have received C.A.T. and Workshop Theatre
awards. Thanks to the love of my life, Rose, and anyone who knows how great Source 4s
are!
Andrea Katz – Technical Assistant
After completing Red Deer College's Technical Theatre Program and spending a summer
at the Banff Center for the Arts Andrea took a sabbatical from the theatre scene. She
is thrilled to be back and has developed a special bond with Audrey II after the trip to
Fort McMurray where her adoption took place.
Trish Befus (Asst Producer)
Trish decided to step out of the safety of the booth and help with producing. Past shows
with FRC as stage manager are Man of La Mancha, Evita and Hair. She sits on the board
for Scorpio Theatre as secretary. Last year she did 7 shows, including a tour with Rocky
Mountain College. Thanks to Darren for helping her learn to produce. And to Jennifer and
Andrea just for being them!

THE LITTE SHOP SYNCOPATED ENSEMBLE
From the front right to left; Back left to right
Wilma Rothbauer (Band Leader, Show and Rehearsal Pianist)
Wilma never uses all 88 keys (heaven forbid) or all 10 fingers, but is really excited
to be part of another FRC show. Thanks Joey and Mary Anne and an incredible cast!
Bruce Robin: Percussion
Bruce Robin, originally from Lethbridge, now calls Cochrane home. Bruce has played
drums and percussion since age thirteen in many different styles of music. He has
been in several Lethbridge Musical Theatre productions, as well as numerous
summer productions and traditional English Christmas pantomimes. Bruce is also
heard in the Calgary Civic Symphony’s percussion section and is an avid jazz
drummer, performing with Westwinds Music Society’s and a smaller combo in
Cochrane.
Bill White (Bass)
Bill has been playing Bass for nearly 25 years and one day hopes to learn how to use
all four strings. Contrary to popular belief the bass is never too loud! This is Bill's
third show with FRC.
Mary Anne Wilson – Music Director and Synthesizer
Jim Shultz (Guitar)
Jim is delighted to be part of the show, many thanks to Wilma, Joey, cast and crew
for their effort and dedication. "Let's do the time warp...", whoops, wrong Horror
musical - but Little Shop is great too. Jim plays in several jazz groups around town
and always enjoys the opportunity to take part in community theatre.

FRC Mission Statement
Front Row Centre Players Society, Calgary's premier community musical theatre
group, is a charitable organization dedicated to making musical theatre experiences
available to as many people as possible - affording an outlet for creative expression
on stage and behind the scenes. Our auditions are always open to the public,
announced through Calgary's free media. Everyone associated with the company is a
volunteer. Our only pre-requisite for participation is enthusiasm.
FRC is always looking for new members and friends, especially backstage, producing
and Front of House. Put those creative talents to good use. You don’t have to be an
expert... just willing and able. Set construction, painting, lights, sound, props,
costumes, make up, ticket sales, and even in front of the bright lights on stage.
