Regulations – Long feature film competition – 17 > 24 June 2016 1. ORGANIZATION 1.1 The Festival is organized by: Cinéfilms asbl, rue Lola Bobesco,3 - 1200 Brussels. 2. GENERAL 2.1 Purpose The Brussels Film Festival has as its purpose to reveal and to valorise the European cinematographic production and to promote the worldwide development of this film industry towards the professionals and towards the public. 2.2 Admission dates Submissions to the BRFF are open to feature films completed after the 1st of July 2015 from Europe. 2.3 Countries accepted The following countries can compete: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The United Kingdom and Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia. 2.3 Feature films Only feature films are considered for programming. Feature films are films longer than 70 minutes. 2.4 Belgian premiere Films that have been exhibited commercially in Belgium prior to the festival are not admitted. Films that have been exhibited in other festivals in Belgium prior to the Brussels Film Festival are not admitted. Only Belgian Premieres are considered for programming. 2.5 Format Submitted films must be available in DCP. All other formats must have written permission from the Brussels Film Festival. 3. COMPETITION 3.1 Sections We have two main sections in competition : European competition – European Panorama. 3.2 Awards In an effort to support European talent, the BRFF will award several prizes in the following categories: Golden Iris Award (Best film value 10.000€). European competition. 10.000€ to the right keeper (distributor or seller or producer…). If the film has a Belgian right keeper, the prize will be given only as an aid in the distribution (The film has to release in 3 cinemas minimum and the communication has to mention this Award). The Festival has the right to organize 3 screenings in Belgium or in other festival in Europe during one year after this edition. It’s to promote the Golden Iris Award. White Iris Award (Best 1st film). European competition. Jury Award (value 7.000€). European competition. 7.000€ to the director of the film for a next post production. Sponsored by Dame Blanche. Best Image Award (value 3.000€). European competition. 3.000€ to the director of the film for a next post production. Sponsored by Cinelab. Best Screenplay Award (value 2.000€). European Competition. 2.000€ to the scriptwriter. Sponsored by Sabam and ASA. Cineuropa Award (value 5.000€). European Competition. It is a promotion award to the right keeper. UPS Cinephile Award (value 3.000€). European Competition. Help to send the film all over the world. To the right keeper. Audience Award. All sections. RTBF TV Prize of Best Film (distribution support 10.000€). All sections. 10.000€ to the right keeper for Belgium (distributor or seller or producer…). BeTV Prize of Best Film (distribution support 5.000€). All sections. 5.000€ to the right keeper for Belgium (distributor or seller or producer…). Prime Prize of Best Film (distribution support 5.000€). All sections. 5.000€ to the right keeper for Belgium (distributor or seller or producer…). 3.3 Jury An international jury, designated by the administrative board, attributes the prizes among the films presented in European Competition. The jury’s decision will be final and non-negotiable. 4. APPLICATION 4.1 Deadline The deadline for film submission is April 29, 2016. 4.2 How to submit To submit a film, a DVD screener of the film should be sent to the festival office or a codefor a web site like Vimeo. All submissions must be accompanied by the completed entry form provided by the Brussel Film Festival on line www.brff.be. 4.3 How to receive the awards To receive the award(s), one person of the crew of the film (Director, actor or producer) HAS TO COME on the closing night, Friday 24th of June 2016. 4.4 Fees The festival does not pay any fee, nor does it demand inscription fees. 4.5 Wording of the prizes The laureates and the film distribution companies engage themselves to use in their publicity the wording of the prizes as it is stated in article 3.2, also in the trailers. 5. SELECTION 5.1 Promotional material The Festival must be provided with all necessary promotional material for selected films (synopsis, photos of the film and director 300jpg…). 5.2 Subtitles Selected films must be subtitled in either French, English or Dutch. If needed, the Festival will arrange for further subtitling. In this event, the Festival will require a dialog and/or subtitles list in one of the above-mentioned languages. 5.3 Screenings All selected films will be screened to public audiences as well as additional screenings for the press, delegates and Festival guests. There will be never more than 3 screenings. 6. DISPATCH 6.1 Deadline for prints Selected film prints must be received by the Festival no later than June 10, 2016. It is requested that the Festival must be provided with all shipping information. 6.3 Shipping costs The Festival pays the costs for sending the selected films as long as the shipping is made by the Festival's official carrier. The expenses charges before and after the delivery which is not due to us will not be at our charge. If the film comes from another festival, the transport up to Brussels will be at our charge, unless an arrangement has been made between the two festivals. If the film has to be returned to another festival, it will be at the charge of that other festival. 6.4 Prints return All films prints will be returned within one week following the last day of the Festival. 6.5 Jurisdiction Entry and participation of a film implies unconditional acceptance of the above regulations. In unclear cases, the festival management will make a final decision. In case of dispute, the courts of the seat of the organizer (Brussels court) are competent.
