Opeongo Selects Soccer U17B ERSL Outline Goal Staff Try-outs League Practices Student Athletes Nutrition Respect Future Goal- Realistic It is the Goal of Opeongo Soccer to improve the skill level of soccer in the Ottawa Valley and provide a higher level of competition to youth who desire the challenge No one wants to lose every week, and we will do everything in our powers to prevent that. However we must enter this season with realistic goals. Our team will be comprised of all most completely house league level players who have not had the opportunities until now to play at this level of soccer. The other teams at these levels play soccer year round and have mostly all chosen soccer as their primary sport vice hockey or anything else. Our Goal this season is simply be competitive and to grow as a team. We will re-evaluate our goals periodically throughout the year. Staff Head Coach – Allan Turtle Assistant Coach – Mark Peever Manager – Carole Buxcey Try-Outs Game – December 12th Saturday in Carleton Place at Beckwith Arena 2-4 pm Sundays – Eganville District Public School – 5 to 7pm Starting January 11th 2016 These will be the primary try-outs for the team. If there are any weather warnings through the winter (Freezing rain/Snow) there will be no Try-out that week. We have players trying out from as far as Petawawa and Beachburg so will not take unnecessary risks. Originally proposed was a $100 for Try-outs and a $50 return should your youth be cut. This is now unconfirmed as the Club in Carleton Place has some issues, however if this game is postponed to the new year everyone will be emailed soonest. The initial fee is still $100, if your youth does not make the team you will receive a $100 refund to be applied to your local club registration 18 Roster positions 2 Designated Reserve positions Designated Reserves are call-up players who are only allowed to play a maximum of 5 games through out the season but must be Player Carded and covered under insurance. These players will only pay the initial $100 fee, will be permitted to train with the 1st Team and will have their own team kit for the season. These players can be expected to be called up because of injuries, ill-timed family vacations, Player misconduct resulting from yellow/red cards or Coach levied penalties. Try-Outs Players will be graded out of 80 based on the rubric Players will compete by position (Coaches reserve the right to changes players positions as we see fit) The final Part of Try-outs will be a Peer Review Process – This will ensure that there is not any player who is here solely for themselves, and no one will know that better then the players they play with. Each player at the end of try-outs will receive a scorecard with there teammates listed and they will rank each other by secret ballot. The end result is to create a team that is strong, competitive and has high team chemistry League – ERSL T2 Competitive The ERSL is a Regional Competitive League. Ottawa Clubs in this league often charge $300 a month for their players to play in these competitive divisions. (We are $300 for the season) Home Field will be Legion Field in Eganville 1 Game night per week (last year was Tuesdays at this age group) This is COMPETITIVE Soccer. House league the goal is “fair” playing time for every player and fun overall. Competitive is skill driven, Winning is the goal. Fun should be derived from the love of the game. Playing time while attempted to be as fair as possible, will be awarded according to the game situation League Game Days Players will always wear there track tops and training shirts to games Since Games away games are in Ottawa or potentially Kingston (1 team from Kingston) Parents are Strongly encouraged to come up with Ride Sharing plans. i.e. one family drives a couple kids one week and then alternate the following week Practices 2 per week There will be 2 Practices per week – there will be one fitness practice and one technical practice – days of the week will be set based on field availability. If players expect to start the following game then they should attend practices Failing to attend multiple practices will result in being suspended for a game and Reserve player being called up STUDENT Athlete These youth are Student Athletes. Student comes first. Provided a parent gets in touch to advise one of the coaches that your player cannot attend practice due to school work, no penalties will be incurred. Players must focus on their school work. Players can be benched at parents request if grades are an issue. Please give us sufficient notice so we can make sure a Reserve player is available Nutrition According to the most recent Canadian Community Health Survey, done in 2004, 53 percent of males aged 14 to 18 are not getting the minimum number of servings of vegetables and fruit on a daily basis. Players must not “diet” but must eat appropriately for an athlete Garbage in – Garbage out Respect 2-way Street Parent Respect Parents need to police themselves on the sidelines and ensure that our parents never attack any of our players or opposing team players. Parents do not coach from the sidelines. Let the coaches coach, Parents cheer Player Respect All players will be treated like young adults provided they act like young adults No talking back to coaches, any issues with any Coach from Opeongo Speak with Allan Turtle – Technical Director.
