Quotes from Organizational Change Research (Ford, 1999.
Organization Change as Shifting Conversations)
One way organizations create their realities or create new ones is through a series of
ongoing conversations. Choose one of the following article quotes to discuss:
“Applying this proposition to an organization implies that the degree to which a new
language is incorporated into the recurrent conversations of an organization will
influence the likelihood and rapidity with which a language shift (and thus change)
occurs.”
“Since what people talk about reflects what they pay attention to, the choice of whether
to speak about complaint or possibilities can make a difference in the progress of
change.”
“The job of a change agent, then, is to initiate, maintain and complete conversations
so as to bring into existence a new conversational reality in which new opportunities for
action are created and effective action takes place.”
