Statement of Purpose
Sunflowers Nursery (Usk) Limited provides care for up to 26 children per session
aged 2 -4 years between 8.30-3.00 pm. During these hours there are the following
options:



Morning 8.30am-12.30pm
Lunch club 12.30pm-1.30pm(may be added to a morning session)
Full Day 8.30am-3.00pm
Fees are payable termly in advance (non- refundable). Funding is available the term
following your child’s 3rd birthday from Monmouthshire County Council for the first
£6.50 per session, up to 5 sessions.
Our aim is to provide a stimulating educational environment that will encourage your
child to engage in new challenges that will enable them to develop the necessary skills
and knowledge needed to develop their learning.
Sunflowers Nursery follows the Foundation Phase framework for the over 3’s, whilst
under 3’s follow the birth to 3 matters framework in preparation for Foundation
Phase. This gives them the opportunity to gain confidence in a stimulating and
rewarding play environment which encourages development.
We intend to meet children’s individual needs by providing:








A safe, friendly, stimulating environment
Appropriate toilet and wash basin facilities
Facilities for children to rest and/or sleep as required
Provision for each area of learning
Age appropriate toys, books, puzzles and games
Arts and crafts and other activities that promote social, emotional, intellectual
and physical development using various medium
Encourage a basic understanding of the welsh language
Providing healthy snack and drinks throughout the day
Sunflowers Nursery (Usk) Limited works in partnership with the Local Education
Authority (LEA) to provide term-time Foundation Phase Education. We undertake
self- evaluation and provide an annual Quality Assurance Report.
Our management team are trained to level 5 and all staff are trained to level 3 or
higher in child care, trained in Paediatric First Aid and attend external training courses
to enhance their qualifications and to promote professional development. All staff and
volunteers are DBS checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Any changes made to this statement of purpose will be notified to parents and the
Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW). Whenever practicable, this
will be done with at least 28 days’ notice prior to changes taking effect.
Sunflowers Nursery (Usk) Limited is open from Monday – Friday, 8.30am-3.00pm
during term time, excluding bank holidays and inset days (which run in line with Usk
Primary School) for the following sessions –

Morning 8.30am-12.30pm
£14.00

Lunch club 12.30pm-1.30pm(may be added to a morning or afternoon session)
£3.50

Full Day 8.30am-3.00pm(including lunch club)
£21.50
Fees are payable termly in advance (non- refundable).
Invoices will be issued half-termly with payment due in advance for each half term.
Payment must be made within 7 days of receipt of the invoice and is accepted by
cheque or cash, however, payment via BACS is preferred; the details for which will
be on each invoice. Child care vouchers are also accepted. There is a £20.00 nonrefundable membership fee payable prior to admission.
Funding is available the term following your child’s 3rd birthday from
Monmouthshire County Council for the first £6.50 per session, up to 5 sessions.
Staff
There will be a minimum of 2 staff present at all times, and we will operate on a
 1-8 ratio for over 3’s and
 1-4 ratio for 2year olds.
Our management team are trained to level 5 and all staff are trained to level 3 or
higher in child care. Everyone who are working with the children will be DBS
checked. (e.g staff, volunteers and students.)

All children are allocated a keyworker. Although all staff has continual involvement
with all children the keyworker system allows for the continuous assessment process
of every child and facilitates closer links between staff and parents.
Daily Routine
8:30 am – Arrival for morning / all day sessions / Welcome and circle time
8:45 am – Free play / Pre-school session / Focused activity
10:00 am – ‘Amser snac’ - Healthy snack time
10:30 am – Outdoor play/PE session
11:15 am – Outdoor play / Free play / Focused activity / Cookery
12.10 am – Songs and rhymes
12.30 am – Home time / Lunch / (Arrival)
1:30 pm – Home time / Arrival for afternoon session / Welcome and circle time
1:45 pm – Free play / Pre-school session / Focused activity / Rest time
2:30 pm – Outdoor play / Free play
3:00 pm – Home time 1 /Focused activity
This routine is a general guide and subject to change, for example, to accommodate
visiting guests, sports coaches, outings, celebrations and special occasions
Items your child will need for nursery

Named change of clothes

Nappies/wipes if your child is in nappies

Named drinking beaker with a lid

Named weather appropriate clothing e.g. coat, sun hat
Please bring a healthy snack from the list below to nursery each session for us to share
at snack time –
 Fresh fruit
 Tinned fruit in natural juice
 Salad vegetables eg. Carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber
 Crackers
 Pitta bread
 Tortilla wraps
 Bread sticks
 Cereals eg. Cheerios
 Cheese
 Houmus
 Dips
 Unsweetened popcorn
This will ensure a wide variety of healthy foods for the children to choose from at
“Sunflowers Snack Café” – open daily 10-10.30a.m.
If staying for lunch, please provide a healthy packed lunch in a named lunch box or
bag. A light tea will be provided for those children attending afternoon or full day
sessions
Each child is provided with a Sunflowers Nursery folder for transporting arts and
crafts and correspondence. We ask that your child brings their folder to every session.
