This course introduces students to the study of organs of speech, and the
technical terms required for describing English speech sounds speech. It
provides students with the basic notions of phonetic, and phonemic
transcription and the set of symbols for transcribing English words ,and
sentences. The main emphasis is on acquiring the practical ability to
make and hear differences between sounds and to identify common
pronunciation problems. The specific aim of the course is to provide
students with a solid foundation for the study of the sound patterns of
English and to help them master the basic notions of phonetic and
phonemic transcription
