Hunter Communications Brings Free Wi-Fi to
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport
Delivers Wi-Fi over high speed fiber network directly to the Airport,
Upgrades equipment to give travelers a faster Internet connection at no cost
MEDFORD, Ore. – July 30, 2013 (TBD) – Today, Hunter Communications and
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR) announced improvements to
the terminal’s Internet connection. The upgrade allows the Airport to continue to
tap into Hunter’s fiber-optic network, which produces 100Mbps and greater
upload and download speeds, and offers faster free Wi-Fi Internet service to
travelers.
Hunter extended its fiber optic network—now the largest privately held network
of its kind in the State of Oregon—to MFR as part of the new terminal
construction project completed in 2009. These efforts took weeks of construction
and not only provided a direct high speed Internet connection to the Airport, but
also allowed Hunter to activate multiple Wi-Fi access points throughout the
terminal. Now, four years after the initial free Wi-Fi service activation, Hunter
has upgraded the Airport’s access points and switches at no cost to the
community. This technology upgrade will help support the needs of the steadily
growing number of Airport visitors by increasing the speed and reach of the free
Wi-Fi Internet service. In addition, the Medford-based company added a Wi-Fi
access point on the upper level to provide improved coverage for conference
room and “Oval Office” users1, as well as restaurant and bar customers.

Richard Ryan, President/CEO of Hunter, frequently invests the company in
public services and community based projects. “The airport is an integral part of
our region and stimulates economic development. We’re just pleased to
continue contributing to travelers’ productivity and opportunity to utilize state of
the art technology in the Rogue Valley.”
“The airport serves many citizens daily – both residents of Southern Oregon and
non-residents. We’re thrilled that with the help of Hunter we can offer free Wi-Fi
to our travelers,” said Jackson County Airport Director Bern Case. “We want to
make the experience they have with us memorable and continue in our
commitment to provide outstanding public service. Free Wi-Fi seems like a
logical step in that direction.”
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is Southern Oregon’s largest airport
and has approximately 1,500 travellers pass through daily. Five air carriers
service the airport with approximately 56 arriving and departing flights daily.
In addition to the Airport, Hunter Communications currently provides free Wi-Fi
service at the Jackson County Expo/Fairgrounds, the Jackson County
Courthouse Auditorium and Main Lobby, Red Robin of Medford, and numerous
public libraries throughout Southern Oregon.
