Peacock and Walton Earn Weekly Honors Springfield, Mass. September 12, 2010 - Springfield College sophomores Ricky Peacock and Chris Walton were honored for their early season success as they were recently honored as conference players of the week. Peacock was tabbed the Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Week, while Walton took home the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week. In last Saturday's 51-0 victory over Husson University in Bangor, Maine., Peacock was 1-for1 in field goal opportunities, making a 21-yarder. He was also 6-for-7 in extra point attempts. Peacock is now 2-for-2 in field goal attempts and 10-for-11 in extra point attempts on the season. Walton is one of the major reasons why the Springfield College men's soccer team is 4-0 and has gotten off to one of its better starts in years. The last three victories, in fact, have come by way of shutout. The first two wins were produced in the Springfield Invitational on September 4-5. SC defeated Johnson & Wales, 4-1, and then local-rival Westfield State, 3-0. Last Wednesday, the Pride defeated always-tough Keene State, 2-0. Then last Saturday in Waterville, Me., SC defeated Thomas College on a late goal, 1-0. Walton has accumulated 12 saves in the four victories.
