Dear Bridge Player

Ace of Clubs
Dear Bridge Player,
July 2006
Ace Holidays
Changes…….
Congratulations to….
Our members have had much
success in the last year. We started
off with Geoffrey Lederman & Richard
Bowdery finishing joint first at the
London Year End Congress. In
Middlesex, Peter Kaufmann & Anne
Rosen won the Championship Pairs
and Mandie Campbell & Jill Feldman
won the Ladies Pairs. Nationally,
Anne Rosen won the Ladies Pairs,
Neill Harcus & Philip Town came 2nd
in the National Masters, Ian Pagan &
Catherine Seale won the Corwen
Trophy and Neil Rosen (& team) won
the Spring Foursomes.
Our in-house Thursday prize Chicago
Ladder has had the following winners
this year. In February Stewart
Herman won with Gordon Barbarash
2nd and in June Liz Rowlinson won
with Ruth Wiseman in second place.
Summer Time
Duplicate players will need to be
aware of new alerting rules that will
be coming into force from 1 August.
Being one of England’s leading
bridge clubs we will help you all to
understand the new rules. We will be
producing a leaflet for your
convenience and we will make a few
announcements at the start of each
session for the first week or so.
These new rules will take a little
getting used to, but ultimately we feel
that it will actually make the game
easier, needing fewer questions from
opponents and probably making the
bidding less stressful.
Supervised Bridge
We are very proud of our supervised
bridge programme. We must give
credit to our supervisees who
generally create a nice and friendly
atmosphere making it really easy for
newcomers to feel comfortable when
coming to the club for the first time.
We are also pleased with the number
of players that are starting to play in
our normal duplicate events after
having played at our supervised
duplicate on Wednesday afternoons.
Please be aware that we try to make
the playing room as comfortable as
possible. When it is hot we need to
keep the air-conditioning units on and
the doors closed. It does get chilly
directly under the units, so may we
request that you don’t sit there if you
don’t like the cooler air or wear
‘layers’. Thanks for your co-operation!
Ring ring &
It has been our ongoing policy since
the end of 2002 to collect £1 for
Cancer Research when a mobile
phone goes off during a session. We
recently sent in a cheque for £146,
making a grand total of £366 donated
to date.
Following our hugely successful
weekend away in Worthing in April,
we are going to the Cumberland
Hotel in Bournemouth from 3 – 5
November. The weekend is full board
and suitable for all standards. Only a
few rooms left, so please check with
Jill before sending in your deposit.
More details on posters at the club,
the Acol or on our website. Make
sure you don’t miss future weekends
by going on our mailing list. Email
[email protected].
Next Season
Good luck to everyone playing in the
league and knockout events.
Remember that the Ace of Clubs is
available on Monday, Wednesday
and Thursday evenings. Book with Jill
at the club or ring 07710 403 126.
Farewell to……..
Sadly Rose Morris, Patrick Trevor
and Ben Raven died this year. They
will all be missed. Our condolences
go to Sandra Renton on the recent
loss of her husband.
........... & Finally
If you haven’t already seen our
website do have a look
www.aceofclubsbridgeclub.co.uk. We
have details of forthcoming events
and courses and our bidding
challenge should make enjoyable
reading. Have a lovely summer and
enjoy your bridge!
