JOB TITLE: Wastewater Treatment Plant ORC
REPORTS TO: Utilities Superintendent
SALARY: $26.00-$28.00 per hour DOQ
FLSA: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: Performs technical and supervisory work planning, organizing and directing the
operations, maintenance, and laboratory analysis at the Town of Wellington wastewater treatment
plant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 Monitors treatment process and makes necessary adjustments as indicated by current
conditions.
 Monitors performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment
process; makes process control decisions.
 Inspects valves, pumps, gauges and other plant or lift station equipment on a regular
basis.
 Prepares inspection sheets, logs, and flow charts; prepares daily reports of analysis and
test results for laboratory and regulatory agencies; maintains records; enters data to
computer.
 Tends influent pumps, blowers, feed pumps, dry and wet chemical feeders, aerators,
telescopic settings, wet well, and other equipment used to decontaminate wastewater;
reads and records effluent flow meter.
 Inspects and cleans filters, tanks, clarifier weirs, and bar screens.
 Changes out chlorine and sulfur dioxide cylinders for chlorinating/dechlorinating units.
 Collects samples and completes chemical tests/analysis such as biochemical oxygen
demand, dissolved oxygen, suspended solids, biomonitoring, and pH of in-process
treatment of water/wastewater; Calculates chemical dosages and adds chemicals to
maintain proper pH in aeration basin.
 Determines and performs sludge wasting from aeration basin and aerobic digester.
 Operates belt press as directed.
 Conduct periodic checks of plant operational equipment.
 Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment; assists in repair of
equipment, including lift stations.
 Required EPA reporting through Net DMR
 Maintains sludge drying beds.
 Performs routine cleaning of equipment, grounds, and work areas.
 Performs housekeeping and grounds maintenance duties; maintains the sprinkler
system.
 Performs routine electrical work.
 Performs routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on all wastewater treatment
equipment and lift stations
 Performs routine welding, cutting and fabrication as needed.
 Ensures proper operation and routine maintenance of sewage pumping stations.




Operates backhoe to load trucks with solid waste; operates dump truck to haul sludge to
disposal areas.
On call after hours and on weekends to respond to emergencies.
Supervision, training and evaluation of operators
Performs other duties as assigned.

 Principles, practices, materials, chemicals, and operating procedures related to the
operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.
 Operating principles of plant equipment including valves, pumps, and motors and lift
stations.
 Methods and techniques of reading and interpreting gauges, recording devices, and
related monitoring systems.
 Tools and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment
plant facility.
 Operating principles associated with water pollution control equipment such as a
centrifuge, chlorinator, samplers, and blowers.
 Maintenance and repair principles and practices including preventative maintenance
procedures.
 Emergency maintenance and repair procedures related to wastewater treatment facilities.
 Methods and techniques of conducting laboratory tests and procedures related to
wastewater treatment analysis.
 Basic principles of chemistry and microbiology.
 Mathematical calculations used in the water treatment operations.
 Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
 Operational and safety regulations pertaining to wastewater treatment plant operations.
 Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
 Principles and procedures used in the proper handling of chemicals.
 Principles and practices of customer service.
 Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software
applications.
 Principles and practices of record keeping.
 Principles of training.
Ability to:
 Operate, monitor, and maintain a variety of wastewater treatment plant equipment, facilities,
and systems.
 Perform complex inspections and preventive maintenance of treatment plant facilities and
equipment.
 Read and interpret gauges, meters, and other instrument readings and take effective course
of action.
 Diagnose complex operational problems and perform effective maintenance on equipment.
 Respond to changing demands on water flow, water quality, and equipment requirements.
 Monitor and adjust plant processes.
 Collect a variety of water samples and conduct appropriate tests in accordance with state
and federal regulations and requirements.
 Compile and record complex data and material.
 Maintain accurate and detailed logs and records of work and laboratory tests performed.
 Complete emergency response training and perform in emergency situations.
 Work well with others in a team environment.
 Complete work within an assigned time frame.
 Perform math calculations related to water works.
 Operate assigned equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
 Operate office equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
 Work independently in the absence of supervision.
 Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of
work.
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Possession of a State of Colorado Class “B” Wastewater Operators License
 3 years’ experience in wastewater plant operation and maintenance
 Supervisory experience
 High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalency
 Valid Colorado Driver’s License
Preferred:
 Valid CDL Driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS:
-Frequent reaching, sitting, standing, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity.
-Occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds.
-Work is typically performed in a plant environment with frequent exposure to noise, smells, and
hazardous chemicals and equipment.
-Occasional work in outside setting with exposure to weather and other environmental factors.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
-Must pass pre-employment drug test.
-Must submit to random drug and alcohol testing
-Must pass criminal history check.
-Must pass motor vehicle records check.
-Must participate in direct deposit.
