Proof of High School Completion
Proof that you completed high school is needed to confirm your eligibility for federal financial aid. Please provide one of the
documents named below within 14 business days. If proof that you completed high school is not provided, you are not eligible
for federal financial aid. NOTICE: The deadline to submit the proof is 30 days after your last date of enrollment.
To prove that you completed high school, provide ONE of the following documents.
High School Diploma
Submit either a copy of your official high school diploma or a copy of your final official high school transcript that
shows the date your diploma was awarded. Contact your school or school district office to request a transcript. If you
graduated from a Detroit Public School (DPS), follow the instruction on the Request for Student Records page of the
DPS website: detroitk12.org/admin/orea/ppm/student_records/#transcripts.
If you completed secondary education in a foreign country must submit a copy of the “secondary school leaving
certificate” or other similar document.
GED Certificate
Submit a state certificate or transcript you received after you passed a State-authorized examination (GED test, HiSET,
TASC, or other State-authorized examination) that the State recognizes as the equivalent of a high school diploma, (e.g.,
a copy of your General Educational Development (GED) certificate or GED transcript.) If you completed GED
requirements in the Detroit Public School (DPS) System, follow the instruction on the Request for Student Records page
of the DPS website: detroitk12.org/admin/orea/ppm/student_records/#transcripts.
College Transfer Credit
Submit either an academic transcript that indicates that you successfully completed at least a two-year program that is
acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree or an official copy of your transcript from another college or
community college that shows your high school completion status upon your admission to the institution.
Submit your transcript to the WSU Office of the Registrar, 5057 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202.
Homeschool Completion
Michigan state law does not require a homeschooled student to obtain a secondary school completion credential for
homeschool (other than a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent). Homeschooled Michigan students and
those homeschooled in states that also do not have the requirement for a secondary completion credential should
submit a transcript or the equivalent, which lists the secondary school courses the student completed and documents
the successful completion of a secondary school education in a homeschool setting, signed by your parent or guardian.
If state law requires a homeschooled student to obtain a secondary school completion credential for homeschool other
than a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, submit a copy of that credential.
If you are unable to obtain one of the four documents, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Print your name and student ID number on all documents – Submit any required documents to:
