Warm-up





Grab-a-Tag
Running and Hopping
 Nominate 2 defenders who wear a belt but no tags.
 All other children wear a belt with 1 yellow tag & 1
red tag attached.
 The defenders chase the other players & attempt to
Grab-a-tag.
Note: Each player may have a maximum of 1 yellow tag &
1 red tag.
The game continues with any player who loses a tag
attempting to Grab-a-tag to replace it.
Organising the Activity
Children run across the grid as instructed by the coach.
Children hop across the grid as instructed by the coach
Coaching Points
Elbows bent & arms do not cross midline of the body
Land on the ball of foot

Organising the
Activity
 Arrange the players into 4 lines with each line behind a
cone as shown.
 Players take turns to perform a series of skill activities as
indicated by the coach.
Suggested Activities
 Pick up the ball from the 2nd cone, run around the 4th
cone & place in back at the 2nd cone.
 Carry the ball around the 4th cone & when returning to the
2nd cone, make a pass to the next player.
- Move the ball around the waist while running.
- Move the ball through the legs while running.
- Throw the ball in the air & catch it again while running.
 Pair one line of players with the line next to it. The 1st
player in each line now both run together passing the ball
to & fro as they run to the 4th cone & back.

Organising the Activity
 Arrange the players into 4 grids with 5 players
per grid.
 Players run randomly about the grid passing
to each other.
 Count how many passes players can make in
30 seconds.
- Begin again at zero if a ball is
dropped!

 Arrange the players into 4 grids with 5 players
per grid.
 1 player from each grid now swaps into the
grid opposite to act as a defender.
 Attackers attempt to make as many passes as
possible without dropping the ball or the
defender intercepting the ball.
 Passes permitted in any direction
 The defender attempts to win possession and
returns to his/her own grid when successfully
blocking or intercepting a pass.
 Alternate defenders regularly.

 Attackers attempt to score a try by passing the
ball to each other and manoeuvring it to the end
of the grid.
 The 1st pass of each attack must be backwards
but all other passes permitted in any direction.
 Attackers should run forwards when in
possession and must pass to a teammate when
tipped by an opponent.

Coaching Points
 Alternate the direction of pass (clockwise /
anticlockwise).
 Switch the players in each circle regularly so that
they practice both long passes & short passes
 Arrange the players in a line with 1 player at each of the
first 5 cones as shown.
 The first player in the line has a ball & passes to the
player next to him, who in turn, passes the ball along the
line.
 Immediately after passing the ball, each player loops
behind the line to the next available cone and the passes
continue.
 Coloured cones will help the players identify where to
loop to i.e. loop from yellow cone to yellow cone.

 Attackers attempt to keep the ball away from
this defender just as they would in piggy-in-themiddle.
 However, to score a point, the attackers must
now also work the ball to their teammate in the
grid opposite i.e. pass to the spy in the camp
 Passes permitted in any direction.

 With a feeder on each side of the grid, position the other
players in pairs at one end.
 The first attacker runs to receive a pass from the feeder,
passes to his/her partner on the run who passes to the
other feeder in turn.
 Repeat in the opposite direction.
 Alternate feeders regularly.
