While the devices are easy to use with a multitude of apps available for every possible context, integrating them purposefully as a learning tool can present challenges. Afternoon awareness sessions regarding the set up and use of iPads as a classroom resource have already been run in the AmmA Centre and staff are currently piloting work in primary and post primary schools. A series of afternoon sessions and training days will introduce and further participants’ skills in using iPads as learning tools in the classroom. OUTLINE OF INTENDED TRAINING To further support the development of the mobile device (iPads), technology and share good practice a number of half day sessions and full one and two day courses will be run in the incoming school year. These will cover areas such as : - basic introduction to the iPad and its tools … setting up and using classroom resources in your classrooms; - using interactive and creative apps such as …. iMovie, Garageband in classroom projects and themes; - exploring apps that allow for pupils to research and create content to share … e.g. apps will include, Explain Everything, Keynote, iTunes U etc; - managing the iPad resource in your school … technical advice; - using stop motion tools to create animations; - creating your own books using iBooks Author; - training a Wider Literacy and Digital Story Telling though the iPad. etc etc … all courses will include curriculum / subject exemplars at primary and post primary level. TITLE OF COURSE: Game Maker [Introduction/Refresh] Game Making is a relatively new area being explored within schools and is included in both the CCEA ICT KS3 Accreditation scheme and CCEA ICT GCSE. A number of popular tools are available for free on the internet and this course is designed to explore & investigate these tools which include: Game Maker, Game Salad and Scratch. Each of these have all been designed to simplify the process of creating simple 2D games which can then be shared to devices or onto the internet. This course will examine the core concepts of game making and provide participants with an opportunity to develop, test & share their own game. The course will also provide an essential foundation for any teacher thinking of introducing MIA (Moving Image Arts) into the Key Stage 4 or 5. The content is suited to teachers who address English with media education in their teaching. COURSE LEARNING FOR PARTICIPANTS / LEARNING INTENTIONS 1. To create a soundtrack with percussion, melody line, bass and harmonic accompaniment. 2. To learn how to use a microphone for recording audio. 3. To practise recording and editing sound fx and voiceover. Using film examples as a stimulus for the creation of original soundtracks using software instruments. The creation and recording of original sound fx, which will later be used for editing to film. Teachers will learn how to export and exhibit their work on DVD, web and email. ICT Accreditation This course supports the development of work for CCEA ICT Accreditation @ KS3. Desirable features: Music Technology / Working with Sound. (Levels 5/6/7). It links to the Moving Image and Animation Desirable Features and promotes enhanced thinking skills in pupils studying across the various curricular areas.
