Welcome to the first edition of VLT News. This quarterly
newsletter is the result of siteholder interest for regular
communications with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries to enhance
customer satisfaction and business success. Each edition will share
important news and information, including a Game Spotlight
section, calendar of events, as well as customer services tips
and research findings, to name a few. As we work to improve
communications with our siteholders, we hope you will find this
newsletter to be a useful tool for your business.

The Manitoba Hotel Association (MHA) and Manitoba Restaurant and
Foodservices Association (MRFA) are very pleased to be an active participant in
the production of this newsletter. We view it as an important communication tool
between Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and siteholders, providing game information,
sharing player feedback and providing answers to siteholder questions. As we
continue our partnership with Liquor & Lotteries and participate in this new venture,

In every edition of VLT News, we will highlight a game in the
VLT network and some of the key play features your customers

• Always validate payslips
that are brought forward for
cashout. Using the ILINK to
validate payslips protects you
from paying out fraudulent
payslips or payslips from other
establishments.
• VLT payslips are valid for seven
(7) days from the date they
are printed. Payslips must be
redeemed at the originating
location.

senior staff person who works
in the VLT area attends and
completes a Problem Gambling

No. The payout percentage
of the new VLT machines
is the same as the old
machines. The Manitoba
Gaming Control Commission
(MGCC) ensures that
technical integrity standards
for VLTs are met and
maintained, including
validation of the payout
percentages set by Manitoba
Liquor & Lotteries.

Understanding Players’ Perceptions
In October and December, we held focus
groups with VLT players in locations
across the province to better understand
their perceptions, ideas and experiences.
• Players sometimes feel uncomfortable
around other unruly patrons.
• They appreciate and much prefer when
the site is clean and litter-free.
What They Told Us:
• How long they play typically depends
on their budget rather than amount of
time.
• They aren’t entirely won over by the
new games yet, but they do like the
better graphics and sound.
What’s Next: A survey was recently
launched that will poll VLT players
province-wide a few times a year to help
us better understand playing trends and
opinions. Results will be shared in a
future VLT News.
Feedback we received from players indicates a perception that the
new line games (non-poker, non-Keno) have a faster game speed
than those on the previous machines.
We investigated this claim and can confirm that the line games on
new machines actually run at a slower game speed than the VLTs
from 2004.

When playing Keno games, players can select from 1 of 3 different
game completion speeds.
