NOTES - APRIL 5, 2016 - CVARNBC POLITICAL ACTION MEETING
Present: Susan Lanyon, Betty Tate, Diane Jaquest, Jocelyn Van Nest Kenny, Liz
Gilbank, Jan Adams, Bunny Shannon
1. ACTION PLAN FOR 2016 - thanks to Betty for creating such a great framework to
follow. Reviewed by group and are on track to date including: Letters sent to Rachel
Blaney and Gord Johns regarding National Housing strategy and primary health,
with copies to relevant provincial ministries
ACTIONS:
 Betty to send primary health care articles to Diane and Jocelyn
 Liz to send a note to Gord Johns reminding him of agreement to follow up
earlier intro meeting
2. REVIEW DOCUMENTS/ STORIES/ NEXT STEPS - discussed information
gathered. Agreed we need to clarify which of all these most interesting issues we
would like to concentrate on. We have gathered lots of information regarding
Complex Care bed allocation, as well as primary care/health care definitions. We
also are now aware of the Frail Seniors project. Some background work is required.
Agreed important to form coalition with others involved in these issues.
ACTIONS:
 Betty to find the contact person for SOS (Save our Seniors) and contact them
re; the status of the group and what emphasis they are taking.
 Jocelyn will try to get some population data / Close the Gap data?
 Betty to ask Trish to approach St Joes for the ALC data and projections
 Betty to contact Andrea Burton at ARNBC to ask her if she thinks we have
enough info to do an issues clarification workshop/ other suggestions
 Susan to follow up with Don McRae"s office re the promised per capita bed
cost for complex care
 Susan to send a list of barriers to the Frail Seniors Project, as Karen Berzeron
suggested that our group might be able to work on some of these.
3. DISCUSSION OF POTENTIAL ACTION RE: THE ROLE OF NURSING CENTRE
NURSES
Our understanding is that the new GP clinic did not include a budget for nursing
staff to support this complex client group, so the NC nurses are having to decrease
other services. Defer further discussion and action to next meeting.
4. SDOH FUNDING - Betty reported there is $200 left in this fund, and we have been
given permission to use this for on-going projects
5. UPDATES - Betty reviewed the CV Coalition plans.
 Point in Time Homelessness Count being done April 12.

Public Awareness Team is making presentations to municipal councils,
Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Probus Clubs and writing articles for
newspaper
