BUILDING OPERATOR CERTIFICATION LEVEL I COURSEWORK
Building Operator Certification (BOC®) is a nationally recognized, competency-based training and
certification program that offers facilities personnel the improved job skills and knowledge to transform workplaces to be
more comfortable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The BOC credential is recognized by employers across the country as a sign of the value and contributions
certified facilities management personnel can bring to their organizations.
About the Program
Running a building isn’t the job it used to be. The complexities and interdependencies of a facility’s systems –
HVAC, electric, lighting, etc. – require an understanding of the big picture so that they work together optimally to
promote energy efficiency.
The Building Operator Certification program trains facilities personnel to understand how these systems work
together, and how to bring them to their most efficient level of operation. Level I training provides an overview of critical
building systems. Level II emphasizes preventative maintenance and more targeted training.
Consistently, BOC Program graduates and their employers recognize the positive results of BOC training and the
value those results bring. Graduates come away with improved job skills and a career-enhancing certification. Employers
appreciate the bottom line cost savings that result from increased energy efficiency. Additionally, building occupants
benefit from a more comfortable environment due to improvements made to air and ventilation systems.
Classes consist of lecture, discussion small group exercises, and facility tours. Facility projects require
participants to demonstrate competence in locating building equipment, distribution pathways, and control points;
calculating facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operation; and, sketching the facility’s electrical

BOC CLASS FEES: $1,500.OO plus $200.00 course books = $1,700.00 (checks made payable to AGC NM)
DATES OF CLASSES: 64 classroom hours over 7 months; (1 Friday/month after 9/18&19 class)
 2014 dates - 9/18 & 19; 10/10; 11/14; 12/12
 2015 dates - 1/9; 2/13; 3/13 and final exam
 All classes held at AGC NM Career Center, 1615 University Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM

 Class size is limited to 24
GRANT FUNDING AVAILABLE FROM PNM AND AGC
 $1,200.00 from PNM – reimbursed at end of course
 $ 200.00 from AGC for course books - reimbursed at end of course
 Qualified students will only pay $300.00 for the BOC 64 hour course
