History of Basketball
James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. It was originally used as a way to
condition athletes during winter. He used peach baskets and a soccer ball. The goal
was to throw the ball into the baskets that were nailed to the gym balcony. After a
while the bottoms of the fruit baskets were removed.
