CRAIGIEBURN TENNIS CLUB INC. Corporation Registration No. A142065 P.O. Box No. 3 Craigieburn 3064 Craigieburn Tennis Club News MARCH 2011 http://craigieburn-tennis-club.org/ Important Notices: 1. Important Dates – please see this year’s dates at the end of this newsletter. 2. KEYS - members are again reminded they must not lend their keys to non-members. Also note that members’ guests are required to pay court fees at $5.00 per hour. Please make these payments to any committee members. 3. Locking up – could all members, team captains and junior team managers etc please ensure that all doors & gates are locked when leaving the premises. Members should also ensure that the gates are locked while they are playing to discourage unwanted guests wandering in. There have been several occasions already this year when the courts have been left unlocked. 4. Court lights – see up-date in Vice-President’s report. Vice President’s Report – Robin Johnson back of court six has also been approved and scheduled for the 21st of March. I am writing this report due to the club president, Peter Ferguson, being unwell and presently undergoing treatment. Hopefully this will be successful and will see him restored to full health and strength and, of course, back on the courts serving up aces and forehand winners. Club Champs – something for everyone The Club Championships are scheduled to run over the last few weekends of March and the first weekend of April. The committee felt that March would be a better time to hold the club champs and by the interest shown and entries received, I would say this has been a good move. In fact we have 41 of the 60 junior players entered into the 2011 Championship, in singles, doubles and mixed. The senior entries close next week, but there are already 22 entries. Our prayers, thoughts and best wishes go out to Peter and we look forward to hearing news of his speedy recovery. The autumn season of the Men’s and Women’s Night Tennis Competition is going well and all our teams are battling for a good position as we come to the end of the first round. Good luck to all our teams and hope to see each one in the final four come finals time. We want everyone (who wants to), playing and enjoying a wonderful competition. Please note there is a special “veterans” section for Saturday 2nd April, scheduled for an early evening start. New Lights We all share the frustration on the delays for the installation of the new lights, but this was caused by matters totally beyond the control of the club committee. With the necessary council involvement in such work, we are, therefore, subject to their approval and time lines on certain issues. These have now all been satisfied. The work is due to begin around the 30th of this month. The new lights will be up and running or I should say shining not long after this. This year a BBQ and canteen will operate during all scheduled events. Even if you aren’t playing, please come down and join in the fun. Please see the schedule advertised on the posters at the club. I trust everyone will have a fun time and great tennis. Good luck to all!!!! Robin Johnson Vice President Many thanks to Terry Hammond for his consistent and persistent phone calls and follow up work with council and the lighting contractors. The repair to the 1 COMPETITION NEWS registration must have played their third match by these dates. Clearances for next season close on May 7. Any juniors wishing to transfer to another club will need a form signed before this date. NSNTA (Night Tennis) After six rounds there are 4 Ladies teams, both mixed and 4 men’s teams sitting in the four. Several other teams are still in the running for a top four finish. Good luck to all. Please Note: At the conclusion of the home and away season all Ball Monies, Portfolios and Keys need to be returned to the clubrooms on May 16th between 7.30 and 8.30pm. Committee Club Championships I will be attending each team training session and talking to everyone about junior club championships this week. We have a new format and a new schedule. Participants already look promising. They start March 20th 10-00am. N.S.J.T.A. website: Don’t forget that everyone can access the N.S.J.T.A. website which is www.nsjta.asn.au where all kinds of junior tennis information can be found. N.S.J.T.A. (Juniors) Season One 2011 has had a very up and down start to it. A lot of our games in the first two weeks were washed out due to the bad weather that was experienced. We have started the year with nine teams. They are: A Reserve 1, A Reserve 2, A Reserve 3 Mixed, A Reserve 3 Boys, C Special 1, C Reserve 2 Boys, D Special 1 Gold, D Special 1 Blue, and D Grade 2 Unisex. As this is my first season I would like to thank Vanda Hammond and all the team managers for all their ongoing help and support during the early weeks. Kym Stephen N.S.J.T.A Junior Delegate and C.T.C Junior Co-ordinator. 0413 527902 We have also had an influx of new members to our teams. We welcome nine new team members across our C grade and D grade teams. All new team members have had one or more games with their new teams. CLUB APPAREL Please see Peter Ferguson for our attractive selection of club apparel including caps, shirts and more. Emergency Players. Please remember that if one of these new players play or an emergency player is used in your team, to mark an (E) beside their name and enter their details on the bottom of the result sheet for the day. It is a very exciting time seeing all these new players take to the courts. HALL HIRE Our hall is available for hire at the following rates: MEMBERS: $100 with a $350 bond. NON-MEMBERS: $250 with a $350 bond. Hourly rate Members: $10 per hour (min. 5 hrs) Non-members $20 per hour – (min. 5 hrs) The hall makes a great venue for large parties and celebrations. We have played five rounds and five of our nine teams are placed in the top four. It is good to see all the teams turning up to their team training sessions. Our D Grade teams are learning how to score and umpire. The main thing is to see all the teams having fun and enjoying themselves regardless of where they are on the ladder. All the team managers and our court managers are doing a fantastic job. I know they appreciate all the parents that pitch in for canteen duty and umpiring each week. ` If you have a business that you would like to advertise in our newsletter, give Karen a call on 9305 6517.
