Kindergarten
Year Two
June 2016
Dear Parents,
The Kindergarten teachers at St. Marguerite
Bourgeoys Catholic School have prepared this pamphlet
to help you and your child get ready for year two of the
Full Day Early Learning Program.
All Senior Kindergarten students will begin the Full Day
Early Learning Kindergarten Program (FDELK) schedule on
Tuesday, September 6th, 21016. If you are dropping off
your child to the classroom, please note that Kindergarten
classroom doors open at 8:50 a.m. Any children attending the
Before and After Care program will be dropped off at this
time also. If your child is going on a bus please ensure they
have a bus tag on their backpacks or know their bus number.
We will send home new bus tags for those who need one the
first week.

Helpful Hints for the Upcoming School Year
• Establish routines. Introduce an earlier bedtime
before school starts.
• Practice the morning routine of dressing and eating
breakfast.
• Provide your child with a healthy breakfast before school
and a nutritious lunch.
• Teach your child:
- To recite full name, address, and phone number.
- To be responsible for and to recognize their own
belongings. You can help by labeling ALL their
belongings (clothes, backpack, coat, gloves…).
- To attend to own personal needs: toileting, using a tissue,
and washing face and hands.
• Choose clothing for your kindergartener that is “easy on,
easy off”. Boots should be large enough so the child can put
them on independently.
• Read to your child daily. Reading increases vocabulary.
Read everything and everything from books to the cereal
box!
• Together parents and teachers make a team. The year is
about cooperation and trust. If something may be affecting
your child, please let the teacher know. If you have
concerns, please share them.
• Make sure that your child has time to play after school and
on weekends. Now that your child spends more time in a
school environment, it is important that they have free time
at home for play also!
• Help your child develop strategies to resolve peer conflicts
and to know when to ask an adult for help.
• Promote the attitude of respect for rights and properties of
others.
