Completing your Apprenticeship application form
Guidance notes
Please read the following guidance notes before and
whilst you are completing your application.
The Apprenticeship application form is in 7 parts. Each part is not very long and
we hope it will be easy for you to complete.
Part 1 - About the Apprenticeship that you want to apply for.
Part 2 - Your experience, skills and knowledge.
Part 3 – What makes you stand out from the crowd?
Part 4 – Your hobbies and interests.
Part 5 – Your education and training.
Part 6 – Your employment history.
Part 7 – Equal opportunities.
Please fill in this form in your own handwriting using black ink or type to
complete the form. CV’s will not be accepted. Please continue on a
separate sheet if necessary, giving the section heading.
Part 1 - About the Apprenticeship that you want to apply for
Put a tick in the box next to the apprenticeship(s) that you want to apply for.
Part 2 - Your experience, skills and knowledge
We don’t want you to write a long essay, so make it short and punchy. Short
sentences are always good.
 Have you done any work experience or a particular job that you feel
would help your application? Tell us about it.
 Have you got any existing skills that you could tell us about that would
help you in your Apprenticeship? For example, you might have skills
from a previous full or part time job or maybe you’ve picked up some
other skills along the way. Tell us about the ones which you think
would be relevant .
 Have you any knowledge about the Apprenticeship area that you’re
applying for?

 Look at the person specification which will tell you the type of person
we are after. Some things are essential – others are desirable. Next to
each point, think about how you match it. Think of it like ‘They
want…… - I’ve got….’
Part 3 – What makes you stand out from the crowd?
Why should we offer you an Apprenticeship? This is your chance to tell us
about what motivates you about the Apprenticeship that you want to apply
for and why you want it. Don’t be shy - sell yourself. Again, we don’t want a
long essay, so short sentences and make it punchy.
Part 4 – Your hobbies and interests
Have you any hobbies or interests that you want to tell us about? Has the
hobby or interest provided you with some useful skills that would help in
your Apprenticeship? For example; if you belong to a team – has it helped
you to listen to and work with other people? How?
Part 5 – Your education and training
This part is to allow you to tell us about any qualifications you got at school
or college – or maybe you have done some other courses or training at work
or through a club. Don’t forget any personal development through voluntary
work that would support your application.
Part 6 – Your employment history
Tell us about any full time jobs you have had. If you haven’t had a full time
job yet, then perhaps a paper round, Saturday job or volunteer work?
If you haven’t had a full or part time job before, don’t worry leave this blank
and move on to the section called ‘References’.
We need the names of a couple of references. Ideally this should be from
your previous employer or a teacher, vicar etc.
Part 7 – Equal opportunities
There are a number of bits to this section and the information you provide
here will not be disclosed to the people who will be doing the interviews. It’s
very important you answer these questions honestly.

Part 1 - About the Apprenticeship that you want to apply
for
As part of your Apprenticeship with us, you will work with one of our teams
undertaking a range of tasks.
Our apprentice Housing Maintenance and Electrical Technician role is of vital
important to our business. We have over 18,000 properties across the East
Midlands and over 20,000 customers.
This is a new role and you will be one of our trailblazers – so we will also be
expecting you to help us develop and improve our service. You will also work
within our award winning Academy.
For the first 18 months of your apprenticeship – and starting with 4 months full
time at Leicester College, you will focus on a Level 2 framework covering
plumbing; carpentry/joinery; masonry/brickwork; plastering and
painting/decorating.
You will work within a number of our teams to learn your trade. Working from our
Littlethorpe Depot (just South of Leicester) you will work right across the range
and diversity of our housing provision – and your work will be very varied and
interesting – one day you could be fitting a complete bathroom, the next you
could be plastering the front room. You’ll never be bored and every day will
present different challenges.
After that you will get stuck into the Electrical phase of your apprenticeship.
The social housing sector houses over 5 million people across the UK and
employs over 150,000 people – so it is a great career with opportunities right
across the UK.
There are also great career progression opportunities – working up to team
leader and then manager - maybe you could be our next Head of Service?
