PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Including: overview, partnership interests, aims, other countries involved and what
you are looking for in your partners
Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages was
founded in 1941 as Almaty Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1998 it
was transformed into a University specializing in humanities, international relations
and language teaching.
It is the only university in Kazakhstan that has courses taught in 14 languages, and it
trains FL instructors for the whole region. The university is the centre for research in
methods of teaching and applied linguistics. It chairs the National Methodological
Council of FL Educators. The University staff authored such regulatory documents as
‘the Concept of Trilingualism in Kazakhstan’, ‘the Concept of Language Education in
Kazakhstan’, the National Standards and National Curricula for several study
programmes.
We are looking for partners in the UK to develop staff and student mobility
programmes, as well as joint research and capacity building projects in the
framework of Erasmus+ and other grant programmes. The main areas of our interest
are Foreign Language Teaching, International Relations, Regional Studies, Culture
Studies, Philological Studies, Oriental Studies, Translation and Interpretation,
Tourism, Journalism, Economics, Public and Municipal Management, International
Law, Marketing, Pedagogy and Psychology.
Ablai Khan University is a signatory of Bologna Charter. We have participated in
several Tempus and Erasmus Mundus projects. Our International Office has been
organizing academic mobility since 2002. Currently we run academic mobility
programmes with 32 institutions; 12 of them are form Continental Europe, the rest are
from Asia.
Moreover, we have agreements with several universities from other countries in
Central Asia that can join the project, and Ablai Khan University can act as a regional
coordinator, helping the applicant university to collect all the necessary data from the
partners.
