Inclusive Ways to divide students into groups.
1. Socks: Use a bag of clean socks – each student picks one and then is
asked to find their pair. For larger groups pairs can join other pairs by size or
colour.
2. Have everyone cross their arms across their chest. Interestingly this will
usually result in a 50-50 split. Those with their right arm on top can be one
group, while those with their left arm on top can be then next.
3. Have everyone choose a number between 1-100 and then
line up this way. The lowest number can then be paired with the
highest number OR highest three numbers with the lowest three
numbers.
4. Glob groups. Have kids group together based on how they got to
school that day.
5. Cut magazine pictures into pieces. Give each student a piece and
challenge them to build the puzzle. Those who belong to the same puzzle
are in the same group.
6. Old Maid deck of cards – Give each student a card and then use the
pictures to divide into pairs.
7. Count the letters in your name(s). If you have an even number you
belong in one group, odd numbers belong in the next.
8. Quotations: Laminate famous quotations and cut them into
pieces. Have the students build the quotations hereby making the groups.

9. Ask students for one shoe each. Divide the shoes into piles.
Whoever the shoe belongs to becomes a member of that
group.
10. Dice roll – Each student rolls a dice. The numbers 1,2,3 make one
team while 4,5,6 makes the second team.
