Think Big!
Aspiration is fundamental to our success in the corporate world. A strong balance between
skills and aspiration is essential to move up within organizations.
In an excerpt from a recent article, Kelvin Tran, President and Chairman of the Board,
Ascend Canada, stated that “Whenever I speak to business students with Pan-Asian
backgrounds about their career goals, I hear Accountant, Consultant, Doctor, Engineer, etc.
But rarely do I hear them say: President, CFO or VP of Marketing….I sincerely don’t believe
that companies have consciously installed a glass ceiling on the careers of Pan-Asian
professionals – especially in Canada where diversity is considered a great asset in any
corporation…. We simply need to strive for more in our careers and stop putting parameters
on ourselves. The only career limitations working against us are the limitations in our own
mindset.”
We are calling on all Ascend Canada members to share your own - or
your role model’s, aspirational story with us:

What is your career aspiration?

How has it evolved over time? (What did you want to be when you were younger,
and how has that transpired into what you have become today?)

How did your cultural background influence your decisions?

What help did you get from mentors and/or sponsors?

What words of advice or encouragement do you have to share?
