The Happenings in Ms. Ketner’s Class
November 10th Edition
A NOTE FROM THE TEACHER:
Dear Amazing Families,
What a fantastic week! We have been working hard here in P5, getting
adjusted to some new classroom expectations and new routines. The students
are blowing me away with their ability to be flexible, handle difficult
challenges and persevere. Thank you to everyone for your continues support
of our class!
Just a quick reminder of our upcoming Family Traditions Feast. It will be
held on November 23rd at 11:00. I would like to have all food here at Grand
Ridge by 10:30, (or the beginning of the school day). If you are interested in
helping out, please let me know!
Congratulations to all students who ran for student counsel! We had 8
candidates, and heard some very impressive speeches. Congrats to Veer and
Emily! I know you will represent P5 well!
Reading:
This week in reading we continue our whole class lessons, focusing on
determining important ideas and summarizing. We are also beginning our
Guided Reading Groups!
Writing:
Wow! What a fantastic job these kiddos did on their published personal
narrative. We continue to grow as narrative writers, perfecting our craft,
sharing, peer editing, and hope to finish up our next published piece by next
Friday!
Science:
BZZZZZZ, we have bee taken over by bees and the students have been busy
pollinating their plants. It is so exciting to see the precision these scientists are
using then they are sketching their plants in their journals, and then
documenting their observations.
Math:
Currently we are working on estimating, dividing and then checking
our work. Students have also been working hard problem solving
with these concepts to solve challenging word problems. As always,
I hold a small group during our practice set for any students who
may need an added boost!
History:
We will be buttoning up our Chapter 3 study of Native American Regions this
week, and our Chapter test will be held next Monday, November 14th.
Students will be encouraged to bring home their History Journal to help them
prepare the the test. They are going to do GREAT!
AFTER SCHOOL MOVIES
Angry Birds (PG) will be shown on Wednesday, Nov. 16th, for your student's
enjoyment, immediately after school. Open to all grades (1-5) with 100 first-comefirst-served spots available for each movie. A $10 donation is requested per Grand
Ridge student. Registration is due no later than the Monday before the showing
you wish to attend. No exceptions. Go to http://grandridgeptsa.org to register your
child and sign-up to volunteer. Once your child's spot is reserved, you will receive
an e-mail confirmation. For questions, email [email protected].
REFLECTIONS RECEPTION
Come celebrate the amazing Reflections artists and artwork at our annual reception at 6 pm on
October 16th in the Commons. This year, artists responded the theme “What is Your
Story?” Come find out what their stories reveal. This event is geared for Reflections
participants and their families, but others are welcome to come see their amazing work. Who
knows, it might inspire a budding author, musician, photographer or artist in your house!
