Ensuring Equitable Access to Postsecondary Education June 2017 1 Agenda Introduction and Greetings (David Armstrong) EDU/MAESD Initiatives Expanding and Enhancing Activities and Forums for Students and Parents Questions and Answers Conclusion 2 Ensuring Equitable Access to Postsecondary Education Ontario’s Vision is that “Ontarians of all ages will receive the supports they need to pursue postsecondary education (apprenticeship, college and university), have a fair chance to fulfill their dreams, achieve their potential and thrive in the global knowledge economy.” 3 Enhanced SCWI Increased activities that promote mentoring for Grade 7 and 8 students by a college student or apprentice Enhanced teacher forums to include information on how to better support students with PSE pathway planning 4 Enhanced SCWI Enhanced parent forums that are delivered at local PSE institutions and provide information to support awareness about PSE opportunities, pathways, and resources to provide smooth transitions 5 Enhanced SCWI Activities and Forums As part of the efforts to support the achievement of this goal, the Ministry of Education is providing additional funding to enhance existing School within a College (SWAC) Dual Credit programs, with a focus on promoting the value of postsecondary education and providing information to students and parents regarding PSE pathways, possibilities and supports, including information on the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) transformation. 6 Main Components of the After SWAC Pilot Program College advisors Three one-hour small group conversations led by a college advisor Up to four hours per student of individual discussion and follow up with advisor PD for college advisors Report back on participants and results 7 After SWAC: Activity Funding Request Include Under Miscellaneous Requests OCAS Application Fee Small Group Conversations One-on-one follow-up conversations PD and Report back for college advisor Workshop Materials Total of Sample Sample Based on 1 class of 20 SWAC students $1,900 $135 $3,600 Notes # of SWAC students x $95.00 3 x $45/hr 4 sessions x # of SWAC students x $45/hr $2,160 6 eight hour days x $45/hour x # of SWAC classes $500 $25 x # of SWAC students $8,295 8 SCWI Enhancements: Next Steps and Timelines Regional Planning Teams are invited to submit proposals on or before July 14, 2017 which will be reviewed the week of July 18th and decisions will be communicated at that time. Proposals will continue to be accepted until all available funding has been allocated.
