ENGLAND HOCKEY
England Hockey (EH) is the National Governing Body for the sport of Hockey. It is responsible
for the management and development of the sport from grass roots to elite activities.
The England Hockey Single System – the Player Pathway is an integral part of EH’s holistic
talent development strategy. Its aims are to provide the best possible talent development
environments for all players to achieve their potential.
To support the delivery of the regional element of the pathway, EH is seeking expressions of
interest for Tier 2 Lead and Assistant coaches.
EH’s vision is to become a ‘Nation where Hockey matters’ through “providing inspirational
leadership for all to fulfil their potential”. The current focus for the organisation is delivery of its
5 objectives within the 2013 -2017 strategic plan:





Growth in participation - Increase the number of people participating in hockey to
ensure a vibrant and secure future for the sport
International success - Continue to raise the performance bar of athlete and coach
development to maintain world level standards and create positive role models for the
sport
Increased visibility - Deliver high profile quality domestic and international events that
attract increased spectator numbers, TV coverage, and sponsorship
Enhanced infrastructure - Enhance the playing experience by improving facilities,
coaching, officiating and the support to volunteers, clubs and all our stakeholders
A strong and respected NGB - Continue to maintain high governance standards and
diversify sources of income to reduce reliance on grants
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
LEAD COACH
The Lead Coach will be responsible for the development and support of players and Assistant

Coaches, reporting to the EH Coaching Manager.
STANDARDS OF SERVICE REQUIRED
 Planning and delivery of sessions, applying key themes and messages aligned to
National Skills Priorities
 Attend Tier 1 competition days and support JRPC coaches with evaluation of player
performance, talent identification of players and selection process to Tier 2
 Provide a final decision on selection where necessary. Provide any additional feedback
to EH and/or the Region/players where further clarification on selection may be sought
 Prior to Tier 1 competition, inform Alicia Lauckner at EH Head Office of any injured
players that would be of the appropriate standard and/or potential to reach Tier 2 but
cannot participate in the final match play
 Inform Alicia Lauckner at EH Head Office of player selection for Tier 2 by 5pm on
Monday 28th September 2015
 Liaise with NAGS Head Coaches prior to and during Tier 2 activity, to support player
selection to NAGS assessments
 Attend all appointed Tier 2 activity including training days, if attending the Futures Cup
 Involve assistant coach with the identification process to NAGS in conjunction with
NAGS coaching staff
 Provide feedback to players via SSORS with support from assistant coach
 Provide formative feedback to players throughout the programme
 Monitor and evaluate assistant coach performance via reporting systems to EH
Coaching Manager
 Provide formative feedback for assistant coaches throughout the programme
 Assist the Team Manager with the implementation of the Welfare Plan
 Liaise with the Team Manager to ensure the smooth running of the programme.
 Work with young athletes and be responsible for their welfare and protection
 A commitment to ensuring Safeguarding and Health and Safety Policy and
arrangements are in place
 An understanding and commitment to EH’s code of ethics in equal opportunities,
employment and personal integrity
 Prioritise individual player development over competition result
 Maintain high professional standards in terms of approach, dress, language and
behaviour
ASSISTANT COACH
The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the development of players, reporting to their Tier 2
Lead Coach and the EH Coaching Manager.
STANDARDS OF SERVICE REQUIRED
 Delivery of sessions applying key themes and messages aligned to National Skills
Priorities
 Support Lead Coach in liaison with NAGS Head Coaches prior to and during Tier 2
activity, to support player selection to NAGS assessments
 Attend all appointed Tier 2 activity including training days, if attending the Futures Cup
 Support Lead Coach to provide feedback to players via SSORS
 Provide formative feedback to players throughout the programme
 Assist the Team Manager with the implementation of the Welfare Plan

Monitor and evaluate Lead Coach performance via reporting systems to EH Coaching
Manager

Qualities and Skills for both roles are likely to include:











Well-developed liaison, interpersonal and people management skills.
Strong communicator, able to clearly and accurately disseminate information, both
written and spoken.
High level of negotiation and influencing skills.
Proven administration skills.
The ability to attain excellence from players, coaches, staff and all stakeholders through
the establishment of a ‘development’ culture.
Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Efficient and organised, with strong awareness of self and self-regulation and the ability
to meet competing demands through effective prioritisation in a results oriented
environment.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, observe confidentiality and use
discretion and initiative.
Excellent observational and analytical skills.
A full Driving Licence.
Demonstrable Focus, Ambition, Inspiration and Integrity.
