Qualtrics Quick Reference Guide What is Qualtrics? Adding Items to a Survey Qualtrics is an easy to use, full-featured, web-based tool for creating and conducting online surveys. Tufts’ customized version of Qualtrics is available to all current faculty, clinical affiliates*, staff, and students via a dedicated website. Once a survey is created, you can add as many questions as your survey needs. Qualtrics has 19 different Item Type options available. The default type is Multiple Choice. *All use of Qualtrics must be in support of the University's administrative, teaching, and/or research work. Tufts' license does not extend to affiliate organizations unless use of the license is in support of research that originated within an academic unit at Tufts University. 1. Click the green Create a New Item button. 2. In Q1, click into the section Click to write the question text. Logging into Qualtrics To log into Qualtrics: 3. Type your survey question. 4. Press Tab (This will automatically move you to the first choice option.). 5. In Click to write Choice 1 type the first option. 6. Press Enter. 1. Open a web browser https://tufts.qualtrics.com. and go to 2. Login using your Tufts Username and Tufts Password. 3. Click Log In. If you are logged into Qualtrics and leave your computer unattended, Qualtrics will log you out after an hour. Creating a Survey 1. Click Create Survey on the My Surveys tab. 2. In the window displayed, select Quick Survey Builder. 3. In Survey Name enter the name of your new survey. 4. Click Create Survey. Once you click the Create Survey button, you are navigated to the Edit Survey tab. This tab displays the progress of your survey as you add and modify questions. 7. Repeat till all choices are entered. 8. Click the green Create a New Item button to add another question. To change the item type: 1. Click the green Create a New Item button. 2. In the right Variations window, click the green dropdown button below the Change Item type section (It will probably say Multiple Choice). 3. Select the new item type (Hovering over the various item types display an example of the question outcome). 4. Enter question and response information appropriate for the item type selected. Qualtrics Quick Reference Guide Distributing a Survey In order to begin collecting data from respondents you must first activate your survey. You can distribute anonymous surveys or use the Qualtrics Mailer to distribute your survey to large groups of people and track their progress. Creating an Anonymous Survey 1. Click on the Distribute Survey tab. 2. On the right side of the window, click the green Activate Survey button. 11. Create and format your message (Do not modify anything below the text Follow this link to the Survey:). 12. Click Schedule Mailing. Monitoring a Survey The Responses section of the View Results tab is the best place to clean up your data or taking a quick look at an individual response. 1. Click on the View Results tab. To look at an individual survey response: 3. This will automatically create Your Anonymous Survey Link. (This link will not track identifying information). 4. Copy the link and paste it into an email or website for respondents to participate in the survey. Distributing a Survey Using the Qualtrics Mailer 1. Click on the Distribute Survey tab. 2. On the right side of the window, click the green Activate Survey button. 3. Click Email Survey. 4. In To: click the Please Select… dropdown. 5. Select Enter Email Address… 2. Click Responses. 3. Click on the Recorded Responses tab. a. Recorded Responses tab: closed responses recorded in your data set. b. Responses in Progress tab: Responses not included in reports until completed or expired. 4. Click on the link in the Response ID column. 5. A document of the individual respondent’s answers is generated. To look at cumulative responses of a survey: 6. Click View Reports. 7. Under Report Name click on Initial Report (This report displays number of responses, percentages and statistical data for each question). 8. Click Next Page to view the next question. OR 6. Create a Panel Name. 7. Enter Email and Names. 9. Select the question you want to review in the navigation pane on the left. Technical Support 8. Click Create. 9. In When: select timing for sending the message. 10. In the Message section type Subject.
