Meaning: the base or basis of something

fundamental (adjective)
Meaning: basic and necessary; essential
Example:
We packed only the fundamental
supplies for our hike on the mountain:
food, water, sunscreen, and a cell
phone.
suspend (verb)
Meaning: to stop something for a short time;
to pause
Example:
I am going to suspend my mail
delivery until I come back from my
vacation.
compassion (noun)
Meaning: a feeling of sympathy for and a
desire to help someone who is suffering
Example:
When Kevin saw how sick his friend
was, his heart was filled with
compassion.
devoid (adjective)
Meaning: without something or empty of
something
Example:
People who are rude to others are
devoid of good manners.
intellectual (adjective)
Meaning: involving thought or reason
Example:
On rainy days, Raina likes to

such as reading ancient history and
playing chess.
rigor (noun)

strong commitment
Example:
