These drives offer a good overall game and wilderness experience in relation to the conservancy. Options include: Three hour morning safari including coffee and rusks. The morning safari departs at 5h00am in summer and at 6h00am in winter. Guests return in time for breakfast. Three hour afternoon/ evening safari including sundowners. The afternoon safari departs at 16.30 in summer and 16.00 in winter. Guests will be back in time for drinks and dinner. The drive departs from camp, traverses through the Kwa Madwala reserve and focuses on your preferences in terms of birds, large game and fauna and flora. Expect to get really close to lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Consider yourself very lucky should you encounter a Leopard sighting and enjoy the variety of general game and wilderness experience the reserve has to offer. Rangers are invariably good entertainers and usually create some fun on the drive whilst they try to match and meet your expectations. Kwa Madwala tries where ever possible to employ people from local communities. As a result the majority of our rangers are from under privileged and previously disadvantaged backgrounds. Our rangers have an excellent knowledge of the African bush with good tracking skills. However you may experience a lack in knowledge on worldly events and issues. We ask that you kindly respect this. It is important to note that every effort will be made in terms of finding the sightings you would like to encounter on a Kwa Madwala game drive and Rangers will do their best for you, however it is a large tract of land and in certain cases it can occur that sightings are poor. In such a case it is important to try and be patient as seldom will you experience that a combination of three Kwa Madwala drives produces poor game viewing results. It is for this reason; especially in the event you would like to get the most out of your African Safari and big game experience that we recommend you participate in at least three game drives at Kwa Madwala and both of the Kruger National Park safari options. Should sightings for whatever reasons be poor at Kwa Madwala, the chances are they will seldom be poor in Kwa Madwala and Kruger simultaneously. The same applies to Kruger in that should sightings be poor in Kruger the chances are they will seldom be poor in Kruger and Kwa Madwala simultaneously. The combination has proven to offer overall spectacular safari experiences. Kindly refer to Standard Kruger National Park day tours and Greater Kruger National Park Game Drives for more detail. Night Drives This experience is conducted in Kwa Madwala’ s open 4x4 safari vehicles and the drive takes you into the 4000ha Kwa Madwala private conservancy at night. These drives offer an excellent introduction to the nocturnal animal activity and species in the reserve. The drive is a two and a half hour true night safari and departs from camp at about 20h00 following dinner. Clients will be back in camp and safely escorted to their rooms by approximately 22h30. The night drive traverses through the Kwa Madwala reserve and focuses on your preferences in terms of birds, large game and some of the smaller nocturnal species in the reserve. Expect to get really close to lion, porcupine, bush babies and occasionally if you are lucky leopard, pangolin and the aardvark. An exciting opportunity and absolute must for those with a spirit of adventure is a Kwa Madwala night drive! Experience the sounds of the African bush with bright stars in the reserves night sky above you and a great range of spectacular African wildlife around you. www.kwamadwala.net A large percentage of animals laze around during the day and start getting active after sunset. Don’t miss the chance to spot Lion and other nocturnal species hunting at night. A powerful spotlight on your open safari vehicle ensures great views and many animal encounters in the dark African Bush. If you come all the way to Kwa Madwala without partaking in the Kwa Madwala night drive you are sacrificing a very important nocturnal part of your African safari – miss out now – miss out forever! Unfortunately this experience is limited to a minimum of 4 people per any departure. In the event you happen to find yourself in a position where there are possibly only two of you who would like to partake in the experience kindly consult the reception/safari desk staff member on duty. They will arrange that a subtle announcement from the restaurant manager be made over dinner to the other guests in camp in an attempt to get the minimum number together so that the departure of the night drive can take place. Kruger National Park Day Tours This experience is conducted in both open 4x4 safari vehicles and closed air-conditioned vehicles. The majority of our international clients choose the open 4 x 4 safari vehicle option as it does offer elevated viewing and a defined more open and panoramic experience. There is no question that one seems to associate any real safari with an open 4 x 4 vehicle; however 4 x 4 is seldom required in this experience as drives are mainly on tarred or good gravel roads. It needs to be pointed out that the closed vehicle option does offer a good alternative for rainy, cold or even extremely hot days when it is going to be unpleasant to be in an open vehicle. Most South African’s would choose this option. Options include: A full day tour of the Kruger National Park southern region. The full day safari departs at 5h00am in summer and at 6h00am in winter. Guests will have breakfast and lunch in the park at one of the picnic spots or at one of the rest camps in the park. Guests will be back at camp in time to freshen up for dinner. Please note that if clients are booked on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis at the lodge, they have to buy their own lunch in the park. A half day tour of the Kruger National Park. The half day tour has two daily departures. Guests can either do a morning half day tour or an afternoon half day tour. The morning half day tour departs at 5h00 am in summer and 6h00 am in winter. It includes breakfast at one of the rest camps in the park, guests being back at camp in time for lunch. The afternoon half day tour departs after an early lunch served at 12h00 am so that departure can take place at 13h00 pm in summer and winter. It includes sundowners. Summer months are: 01 November to 31st March Winter months are: 01 April to 31st October Your ranger will arrange to give you a morning wakeup call should you so require. A half day tour takes approximately 5 hours and a full day tour between 10 and 11 hours. The drive departs from camp travels along the tarred public roads to either one of the main entrance gates to the Kruger National Park. The entrance gates we make use of are either the Malelane or Crocodile Bridge Gates depending on the season. These are the two main entrance gates on the southern side of the Kruger National Park. The Malelane entrance gate is half an hour’s drive from camp and the Crocodile Bridge entrance gate is a 45 minute drive from camp. The half day tour focuses on the very southern part of Kruger whilst the full day tour covers a large area up to Skukuza. Kindly refer to the map marked Conventional (Standard) Kruger National Park and Conventional (Standard) Kruger National Park – Southern section only. The southern section of the Kruger National Park is renowned for its rich game and diversity of fauna and flora and offers excellent chances of seeing Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and scores of general game. The main advantages in partaking in the Kruger National Park half or full day tour can be described as follows: This is a tour of the entire southern area of the Kruger National Park and covers a far larger area of land than that of the Kwa Madwala drives. Kruger National Park offers an environment as close to natural as possible. It offers some of the best game viewing in terms of variety of species Africa has to offer. Kruger National Park remains an icon in international circles and a must see if you are from abroad and have travelled several miles to visit South Africa. Some points to be aware of in terms of the Kruger National Park full and half day tours: www.kwamadwala.net The Kruger National Park is today fairly commercialized in most parts and it is not uncommon to wait at one of the main entrance gates in long queues for up to half an hour especially on public holidays. Scheduled tour groups are advised to pre book their Kruger gate entrance fees in advance. Most of the tour will be conducted on tarred roads where you are likely to see various other vehicles, safari operators, tour busses and cars on the animal sightings you may encounter. Rest camps are simple offering simplistic lunch menus and drinks. In addition the rest camps are usually fairly busy and quite commercialized in terms of curio shops and people. If you are coming all the way to South Africa from abroad you have to do the Standard Kruger half or full day tour. It is one of the icon’s South Africa has to offer. www.kwamadwala.net
