Mimi’s House Family Support Liaison Officer The Company: Mimi’s House is a nurture based program of Hope Centre Services, and is designed for children who have experienced trauma, grief or stress which is causing them to disengage from their learning. The mission of Mimi’s House is to build strength and resilience into the lives of children experiencing severe disadvantage by teaching life skills and helping them engage in healthy and positive relationships with themselves, each other, and their communities. Hope Centre Services, as the parent organisation of Mimi’s House, is a modern, dynamic not-forprofit enterprise that conducts life changing programs in various locations across the Greater Brisbane area. This innovative organisation began as CityCare in 1995 in Fortitude Valley in response to the issue of homelessness and to care for the many disadvantaged and marginalized. Employment terms: Permanent Part Time Contract for 12 months from commencement with possible extension for up to 3 years. Part Time 15.2 hours per week Salary: $25.38 per hour plus 9.5% Superannuation The Role and duties: The overall role of the Family Support Liaison Officer is to ensure that the care needs of the Mimi’s House children’s families/parents/carers are met and that they are receiving the necessary support so that the educational outcomes of the Mimi’s House children are enhanced. A key indicator of success for the Mimi’s House children is their home environment, as such this role plays an integral part of ensuring the family home environment is functional and positively supporting the Mimi’s House children. Below is a further break down of the role split into three key parts: Liaise, Assess and Refer. Liaise Liaise and build rapport and trust with relevant social services and community programs to be aware of what’s available for the families. Build on the existing data base of these services/programs and keep it up to date with contact details. Liaise with Mimi’s House Coordinators, School Guidance Officers and team on child’s progress and provide feedback to parents. Attend appropriate training and professional development. Assess Build rapport with the families/carers and visit Mimi’s House parents, guardians and families and assess holistic family/carer needs affecting the child’s development Raise awareness of Mimi’s House learnings, child’s development and progress in the house, and ensure consistency of language used by the parents/carers and at Mimi’s House Refer Engage family support programs in community – health, culture, finance, counselling, practical assistance, crisis care etc. – to address the family’s/carers needs. Refer the parents/carers to these programs/services on a case by case, needs basis. Support parents/carers with referrals to these community services Encourage parents/carers to prioritise school attendance and affirm key principals of hygiene, self-care, health, and nutrition, etc. Recording / Reporting Fill in incident reports when required and submit to appropriate personnel e.g. mandatory reporting. Participate in recording and reporting on the child progress in participation with the Mimi’s Coordinator and Guidance Officers. Build on the existing data base of community services/programs and ensure this data base is kept up to date with relevant information and contact details Participate in the Outcomes Measurement data collection in relation to the outcomes of the parents/carers. Experience: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● A completed degree or currently completing degree in social work, counselling, human services, or psychology. 5+ years’ experience working directly with vulnerable and at risk families will be taken into consideration in place of formal qualifications. A strong understanding of the services/programs that are available in the non-profit sector for vulnerable families/carers, and a strong understanding of how to access these services. Excellent communication skills, organisation, and team work skills. Positive attitude, flexibility, compassion, attention to detail and ability to multitask. Fluency in written and oral English. A passion for children and for the vision of Mimi’s House and a Christian faith based approach to community development.
