Tests
The easiest and best way to
complete your playing test is
to use a smartphone or tablet
(iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or
Android).
Go to the App Store or Google
Play store on your device.
Search for an app titled
“Charms”. The one you want
will be the first one that comes
up. It’s free, download and install it.
4 Choose the assignment you are going to complete. The due date is posted under‐
neath the tle. You will now see the playing test excerpts and other helpful informa on. Once you have prac ced your test and are ready to record it, press the red circle to record. The recorder will give you 5 seconds to set down your de‐
vice and get ready. Once you are done, press the rectangle on the right to stop. PracƟce it first! Wait to record
unƟl you can PLAY your test spot!
Once you open the app, enter “ahsorchestra” as the school code and your student ID# to log in. 3 Enter the Recording studio. Choose “My Assignments” 5 A er you’re done re‐
cording, press play to listen back. If you want to try again, press “Trash” and record again, un l you get one you like. If you like it, press “Upload” and wait for it to finish. 6 After you have uploaded your playing test, listen to it again to make
sure it uploaded!
To do that, go back to this page, but this me choose “My Recordings” Find your recording, press on it. From here, play it to verify it was uploaded correctly. If you don’t like it, you can delete it from here and start over. If you have completed all of these steps,
CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully
submiƩed your playing test!!
Playing Tests Tips
1. If it doesn’t work at first, KEEP TRYING!
a. Saying it wasn’t working one time is NOT an excuse.
Try again the next morning, next day, next evening.
Don’t wait until the last minute.
2. E-mail tests are NOT accepted. You must use the
Charms app or Charms website to submit it. No
exceptions!
3. If you do not have a smartphone, you may use another
student’s device to do your playing test.
a. Practice your test spot at home until you can play it
well, then ask to borrow someone’s phone or have
them record you.
4. You can use a voice recorder to record your test. This is
the most complicated way to submit a playing test.
a. Check out recorder in orchestra office
b. take it home and record your test on it
c. Plug it into a computer at home or at school,
d. go ahsorchestra.com. Click Charms tab. Sign in.
e. Click on recording studio, click upload existing MP3
f. Click browse, locate your playing test on the
recorder, and upload it.
