Homework
• Why do we set homework?
We believe that children should work hard during the school day, and have plenty of time to
relax and enjoy their childhood at home. Our homework policy reflects this, but also recognises
that regular time set aside for work outside of school is an important part of a child’s educational
development.
• What specific homework is given to our pupils?
All children will have weekly spellings and a times table to learn with a small test every week.
All children will be expected to read to an adult at least 3 times a week and record comments in
the home school record book.
All other homework will be set on a Friday; we believe this will enable children to manage their
time efficiently with outside school commitments. It will be due in 11 days and handed in to the
subject teacher on the Tuesday.
All spelling lists and times tables to learn for the week will be set on a Friday and the children will
be tested the following Friday.
Time allocated for homework set increases in Year 5 and Year 6. Year 3 and Year have 20
minutes of English and Maths.
Learning logs will be set at during the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) topic instead of the
English and Maths. They will be given to children in the style of ‘Show Me……’ and can range
across all subjects and aspects of what is currently been taught in class.
Extra activities that are available for the children to access at home are; Mathletics and Bug
Club.
