Report to Governors May 2015 School Sports Premium Rationale It is important for Shooters Grove Primary School to have happy, healthy pupils who are successful and fully engaged in the life of the school. Having the sports premium funding helps enable pupils from all backgrounds to participate in a range of sporting activities within and outside of the school. This funding also helps promote the importance of young sports leaders in the school. For example, enabling the Y6 young sports leaders and the play-time buddies to facilitate their roles more effectively. Allocation Shooters Grove Primary School was allocated £9420 sports premium funding for 2014/15. This is based on £8000 plus £5 for each eligible pupil (284 pupils). Pupils engaging in new sporting activity – Boxercise after-school club. Enhancement of vital life skills with the lunchtime sports sessions - effective communication and team work. Consequently, pupils have used these skills to help their success in the classroom. A definite (increased) interest and general engagement in sport by having expert instructors in school to help train children for participation in external competitions and events (Bradfield Cricket Festival, Sheffield Eagles Rugby Tournament, Partnership Games, KS1 World cup event). Targeted KS1 children participating in extra sport (Ruggereds Rugby). Y4/5 children successfully representing the school in the Arches dance event at the Octagon. Having expert instructors (from Arches) in school helps staff become more confident in their own teaching of PE. It is predicted that new training for KS1 – Summer 2 (Balancability) will help children engage in cycling as they progress through school. This will link well with the cycle proficiency in Y5 (Bikeability). Thoughts for the future Further develop the number of sporting after-school clubs. Specific CPD for staff (Training day/twilight?). Develop greater cohesive links with Forge Valley for competitions and sporting events E.g. Archie Sports Camps (participation during holidays). E. Wilson (May 2015)
