FIELD HOCKEY 2015 Goals and Expectations COACHING PHILOSOPHY: Coaching is a professional privilege which allows me to educate young people through the game of field hockey. It is more than creating a well established program or winning championships. As a coach I get the opportunity to make an impact on young people's lives. It is my responsibility to help my players to make good decisions on the field and mature decisions in all areas of their lives. Field hockey is a team sport and it requires an athlete to be in good physical shape while performing high level stick skills. I am committed to using my knowledge, abilities and resources to make each player on my team successful. It is important to me to create an environment where the athletes are not afraid to push themselves and each other to work hard, and to work together to achieve a common goal. We win as a team and we lose as a team. We neither make nor accept excuses. We look out for our teammates, always. I believe that the lessons we learn throughout our sporting experience will carry over into our everyday lives. Team work, mutual respect, commitment, and hard work are all building blocks to good character and by achieving this we will be successful. GOALS: Our goals are to win The Inter Ac Field Hockey Title and to win The PAISAA Championship. Together, with the returning letter winners we have the personnel to help realize these lofty goals. Our goal is to encourage each field hockey player to challenge herself academically, athletically and socially. Become a leader and enjoy the privilege of being a student athlete at The Episcopal Academy. A winning tradition does not include just a winning record. We also measure success by the individual and team improvements that are made throughout the season. Most importantly the effort put forth by every member of the team will be the ultimate measure of how successful we are. Your effort, attitude and dedication will determine how much we can accomplish as a team. A winner takes care of her teammates. A winner makes no excuses nor accepts excuses. A winner pushes herself and her teammates to work harder. EXPECTATIONS: Attendance and practice: Practice begins at 3:45 PM. except on Fridays when we can practice earlier. Practice is over by 6:00 PM! Sometimes we finish earlier but never later. Permission to miss practice is granted only in exceptional situations. If you must miss a practice let Ms Buggy, or Mrs. Vos Strache, know as soon as possible. Punctuality is very important. If you are consistently late this could affect your effort grade, playing time and varsity letter status. Managers will be considered for a manager certificate if the time and dedication warrants this accolade. Parent Concerns and Communication: As an upper school student we encourage the players to go to her coach if she is confused or concerned about her role on the team or her playing time in games. If there is still concern the parent and the athlete are encouraged to make an appointment to speak to the coach. If this is unsatisfactory, the parents are encouraged to speak to Mr Farrell the associate Director of Athletics and to set up a meeting with Mr Locke. Parents are encouraged to contact the coach directly with concerns regarding your daughter’s health, safety, college information or other questions, not related to playing time.
