Because I will be away for a month in Sept/Oct all entries need to be emailed and paid

Will be taken as at the first day of competitions each weekend: 30th Oct for tap and 13th Nov
Jazz. In theory if entering both could be a different age each weekend.
Admin Fee/
Hall Entry:
This is compulsory and must accompany each entry (1 per family only). This is for admission
into the hall for as many people as you like throughout the competition (except troupe night
when there will be a charge). Troupes do not need to pay this fee.
$20.00 per person/family
Programmes:
$8.00 each posted. Programmes will be emailed only to those who purchase the programme, a
schedule will be emailed to everyone who enters.
Cups/trophies
A trophy to keep will be awarded for every class that has been sponsored. If you would like to
sponsor the trophy for a class please add $10 onto your entry form or $30 for a championship
one. We will organize the trophy and the engraving, so please let me know what you would like
it to be called..

Restricted
Classes:
Are for those competitors who have not previously won a first place at time of entry in the type
of dance they are entering at any competition. Restricted competitors may enter restricted, open
class Restricted Championship and Open championship. The same dance may be repeated in
all of the above classes.

Kitchen:
Are for those competitors still in restricted (ie have never gained a first in a restricted or open
class) OR for those competitors that are still in open but never gained a first, second or third in
any previous open championship classes or won a restricted championship previously. Open
competitors (that have not been placed 1st , 2nd or 3rd in a championship) may dance both the
restricted and open championships if they wish and the same dance may be repeated.
Competitors must dance in the open solo class to be eligible to dance in the championship
class.
Any competitor may enter the championship class, whether restricted or open. A different dance
does not need to be done, nor does a three speed dance (for tap) need to be done in any of the
championship classes. All winners in the championships will receive money and sashes.
Competitors must dance in the open solo class to be eligible to dance in the championship
class.
Refreshments and light meals will be available throughout the weekend.
Champion of Champions
The highest overall scoring troupe U12 will receive a $300 cash prize and the highest overall scoring troupe 12+ will
receive a $500 cash prize. These prizes may increase depending on sponsorship.
There will also be cash prizes for special awards during the troupe session such as Most Promising Troupe, Best
Costuming etc.
The same format will be used for championship overall highest scoring winners.
NATIONAL YOUNG PERFORMER AWARDS 2016 CRITERIA
FOR TAP DANCING
A.
Performers shall be 15 and under 21 years as at 1st of October 2016.
B.
Each performer shall compete in three classes during the preliminary rounds.

Championship 3 Speed
2.
Tap Dance, own selection (not Song and Dance).
All performers will participate in a Master Class, taken in the manner of an Audition, conducted
by or for the Adjudicator. No audience observation will be permitted. The Master Class will be taken into
consideration in determining both the semi final and the final placing.

There shall be a maximum time limit of 4 minutes for each dance, taken from the beginning to the
conclusion of the music. A penalty of 5 marks will be imposed if the time limit is exceeded by 10 seconds.
C.
There will be a semi-final of up to 12 performers who will repeat either B1 or B2, at the discretion of the
adjudicator. Competitors will be chosen based on their marks in the Preliminary round(s).
D.
For the Final Award Concert six performers will be recalled, and shall repeat the item not performed at
the semi-final.

SOCIETY NOMINATION
Each Society, which is a financial member of PACANZ, may nominate up to two competitors, who shall be
selected by the adjudicator, based on a performance as outlined in A, B1, B2 and C.
The adjudicator will determine that a competitor has displayed a sufficient standard of performance to
competently represent that society at the National Finals.
The standard required will be at the absolute discretion of the adjudicator but will include;

A demonstration of adequate preparation
o
An authority of performance
o
A performance with a level of maturity commensurate with a national final competition of
this age group.
If the adjudicator considers that sufficient standard has NOT been reached by any competitor, then NO
nomination will be made.
The Nominating Society is responsible for paying part of the entry fee to the National Young Performer
Awards i.e. $75 inc gst.
The Nominee is responsible for paying the rest of the entry fee to the National Young Performer Awards i.e.
$175.00 incl gst
AWARDS
A.
NATIONAL YOUNG PERFORMER
2016 CRITERIA FOR TROUPES/GROUPS
Competitors may be of any age. Competitors may only compete in ONE nominated Troupe/Group.
Each Troupe/Group shall be nominated at a Member Society Competition by performing in any dance genre pertinent to
the Competition they enter. This competition is for amateur troupes/groups only and is not open to professionals*.
No singing allowed.
B.
There shall be a maximum time limit of five minutes, taken from the beginning to the conclusion of the music. A penalty
of 5 marks will be imposed if the time limit is exceeded by 10 seconds or more.
C.
Troupes/Groups who gain nomination must be able to attend the National Young Performer
Competition which will be held in Palmerston North. Compulsory Registration/Orientation will be on the evening of
Thursday 13th and the Competition will be on Friday 14th October 2016.
D.
The winning Troupe/Group will be announced at the completion of Competition on the Friday and it would be
appreciated if the group were available to perform at the Final Award Concert on Sunday night 16th October 2016.
E.
Costumes, choreography & music should be appropriate to the age of both the competitors and suitable for a family
audience.
F.
NB. Troupe/Group members names and age, as well as the Entry Fee, will need to submitted on the Official Entry form, no later
than 6th September 2016.
Nominees in the Troupe/Group section are required to include performance copies of their music on CD when submitting
their entry form, and a list of the titles and composer and/or artists for each piece.
SOCIETY NOMINATION

Each Society, which is a financial member of PACANZ, may nominate ONE Troupe/Group**, who shall be selected by the
adjudicator, based on a performance at the Member Society Competition. No “gifting” of Nominations will be permitted.
The adjudicator will determine that the Troupe/Group has displayed a sufficient standard of performance to competently
represent that society at the National Troupe/Group Finals.
The standard required will be at the absolute discretion of the adjudicator but will include:
 A demonstration of adequate preparation
 An authority of performance
 A performance with a level of expertise commensurate with a national final competition.
If the adjudicator considers that sufficient standard has NOT been reached by any Troupe/Group, then NO nomination will be
made.
The nominated Troupe/Group is responsible for paying the entry fee to the National Young Performer Awards, which is
$250.00 incl gst.
The winning Troupe/Group will receive a Trophy and $1,000 for their Studio.
*Professional means any performer whose primary form of income is through dance performance and whose chosen career
requires him/her to be recognized (classified) as a professional. The exception to this is a participating teacher who may
perform.
** As some Societies split their dance genre’s and run large Competitions at different times of the year, they will be able to
nominate more than one group to represent their Society.
