PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
1. DEFINITION: Intersectionals is a Team (Club) Match Play competition. There are four Divisions
– Men “A”, Men “B”, Senior Men and Super Senior Men. Each Division is divided into Sections
and each Section consists of 3 or 4 teams.
“A” - The best players in the club. The team may include a maximum of 2 Juniors **.
“B” - Players must have a Handicap factor of 10.5 or higher. (See No.11 Special Rule). The
team may include a maximum of 2 Juniors **.
** Juniors must be 18 or under as of the date (TBA) established for the GAO Junior
Championship.
SENIOR - Players must be 55 years of age or older and two players must be 65 years of age or
older, on the day of the competition.
SUPER SENIOR MEN – Players must be 65 years of age or older on the day of the competition.
2. ELIGIBILITY: A player must be a member of the GAO and a member in good standing of his
club. A player cannot participate in Intersectional “A” and Intersectional “B”. Only an “A”
alternate, who did not compete in the “A” competition, may play in the “B” provided he is
eligible. Senior players may participate in the Senior Men and in one of the other two divisions,
“A” or “ B”, if he is eligible.
PENALTY: If a player plays in both Division “A” and Division “B” Intersectional matches,
the club will be disqualified from both Intersectional Divisions for the current year. The
club will then be placed in the last section of both Intersectional Divisions for the next
year.
3. TEAM COMPOSITION: A team consists of eight (8) players and two (2) alternates.
4. COMPETITION: The competition consists of single match play between members of the Teams
in the same section. The Official Team Registration Form (i.e. Players List) must be submitted
by the Team Captain by the Registration Deadline. Substitution(s) can only be made at the
Captains' Meeting on the date of the competition and only with the alternate players listed on
the registration form. Should a club not field 8 participants, the slots in the highest handicap
factor group shall be left vacant.
Substitution Method:
The replacement player must be positioned as the club’s lowest player at his particular
handicap factor. Example: If the substitute player has a handicap of 8.3, that player is
inserted at the lowest rank corresponding to the 8.3 handicap factor.

NOTE: Senior Men – Please keep in mind that you must also have two (2) players 65 years of
age or older on the team. If you don’t, the team will lose 6 points per player 65 or older

Starting Order: Alternate players will start the competition. Players will follow in order of
their club handicap factor. The highest handicap factor (the number eight players) will tee
off first. NB. Tee off order: Host Club, Club B, Club C and Club D .
5. SCORING:
Individual: Each player plays a match against the other players. Two (2) points for each match
won; One (1) point for each match halved; Zero (0) points for a loss.
Team: The winning team advances to the section above at the 4th rank. The 4th place team
drops to the section below at the 3rd rank. The 2 nd place team becomes the Host club for the
following year.
Ties:
In case of a tie between two or more teams:
 The team with the highest aggregate points of individual matches between
members of the tied teams shall be the winner.
 If the teams are still tied, the point results of the matches between members of
the tied teams shall be compared on a sudden death basis starting with the lowest
handicap players until the tie is broken.
6. GUIDELINES:
1. Local competition rules must be specified at the team captains’ meeting prior to the
tournament.
2. The rules of golf in effect are those for three-ball matches (rule 30, and three ball
definition) as well as those on the notice to competitors.
3. If a player fails to appear on the first tee at their allocated starting time, he will incur a
penalty of “loss of the first hole”. The player may catch up to the group, but loses any hole
started by the group.
4. Motorized or electric carts are permitted, however the player must not move the cart past
his ball. 1st offence, warning; 2nd offence, loss of hole.

radio is reserved exclusively for the referee. Breach of this rule: LOSS OF HOLE.
A GPS or any other measuring device is permitted as long as it measures distance only.
6. To prevent matches lasting 5 to 6 hours, matches must be played within a definite time
limit. Players will be given the pace of play used by the host club + half an hour to
complete their matches. (Example: host pace of play is 4h15m + 30m). At that time,
players will finish the hole they are on and the matches are over.

play immediately. Breach of this rule: TEAM PENALTY OF ONE POINT.



If possible, reschedule another competition within a 7-day period. The players must
be those listed on the original registration form.
If this cannot be done then the competition is cancelled. The Team Rankings
remain unchanged. The host club moves up to the next higher group at the 4 th
position and the 4th placed club drops down to the group below at the 3rd position.
If all the sections in one division cannot compete, the rankings shall remain the
same for the following year.
8. HOST CLUB: The club finishing in second place in their section becomes the Host Club the
following year. Clubs have the option to accept or refuse to host in two consecutive years.
Clubs will not be allowed to host three years in a row. If this occurs, the team in 3 rd place will
become the host club. This rule does not apply in the case of a club withdrawal. In such a
situation, GAO Kingston District reserves the right to select the host club.
