Never leave without saying goodbye Once you have said goodbye go quickly We will always call you if your child is distressed Fern Hill Primary School What to wear No uniform for Nursery Daisy T-shirts and sweat shirts if you want to Clothes to move and get messy in (we do have aprons) Clothes they can manage themselves in the toilet Shoes they can take on and off and fasten themselves- no crocs or open toe sandals Check the weather- we always go outside Girls- leggings/ trousers for PE day- no tights please No jewellery- this is a whole school rule Fern Hill Primary School Do they need to bring any thing? Book bag- really important for library book and letters (please check daily) Spare clothes in a named bag Please do not bring water bottles, food or sweets- we always have drinks and fruit available Sun hat if it’s sunny! No toys please (except for Show and Tell day) - they do get lost! Wellie boots for puddles and digging- you can leave a pair of named boots on our trolley Fern Hill Primary School Child safety Please bring your child right inside and make sure one of us greets them Please be on time to collect your child Please wait in the outside area at pickup. We will send your child out when we see you. Please fill in a slip if someone else is picking up your child- we will not let them go without this. Please put sun cream on before they come in Please keep your child at home for at least 24 hours after sickness or diarrhoea. Please let the office know if your child is absent. Send in home learning and WOW stickers Comment and add your child’s quotes on Tapestry Read and talk about the library book they bring home Share the Learning Packs together Come to Parent Workshops and Stay and Play sessions Check their book bag every day for letters or work they have brought home and talk about school Value and celebrate what they do, learn and achieve. Welcome the class pet when he comes for the weekend! Come in and help if you can (DBS check needed) Fern Hill Primary School How can I help at school? Get a DBS check Sign up to help regularly if you can- library, cooking, gardening, reading stories, helping with activities, washing up… Occasional help is also useful for class trips, special days, etc. Look out for requests for resources that we need Be our PSA class rep Volunteer to help at PSA events Fern Hill Primary School Preparing for September Encourage your child to be independent going to the toilet, washing hands, putting on coat and shoes and eating Teach your child to wipe their nose Talk about Daisy class, what they might do there and staying without you- but you will come back! Encourage your child to walk as much as possible (no buggy!) to build muscle strength, stamina and spatial awareness Active play Teach them to recognise their name and say hello, thank you and goodbye Encourage them to play an activity without needing an adult for a short time Teach them to take care of books and toys and to tidy up Talk, talk and talk some more! Fern Hill Primary School A word about letters and numbers Writing their name- use lower case not all capitals Please teach letter sounds rather than letter names- they don’t need to learn the alphabet yet. Point out the difference between the ‘words’ and the pictures in a book Show them which way up to hold the book and direction of reading Practising counting and understanding number concepts is more important than recognising numbers at this stage.
