Hollywood Gaming at Dayton
Raceway cashing larger prizes
Ohio Lottery customers can now cash prizes of $600 to $5,000 at Hollywood Gaming
at Dayton Raceway and can do so 24 hours a day.
Customers must be 21 years of age or older to enter the racino and cash prizes. Prize
cashing, which is subject to a $10 convenience fee, will be waved for holders of
Hollywood Gaming’s Marquee Rewards® card with a valid email address. Customers
have been able to cash prizes of up to $599 since 2014.

Jackpot winners get half the pot (50% of total
net sales for the drawing). Each week the jackpot starts anew.
Customers vie for the jackpot or one of 35 other prizes. Those prizes include 10
prizes of $2,000 or 25 prizes of $500.
Alert customers to Ohio 50/50’s Saturday drawing deadline. Share the news

August 2016
Michael Mancini of Twinsburg bought
Lottery tickets for 25 years, predicting
that one day he was going to hit a big
one. Ten days after his birthday, he won
$1 million on the Lottery’s $30 instant
game, 40th Anniversary Millions. The
annuity prize of $40,000 a year for
25 years will give him a guaranteed
income. He purchased his winning
ticket from Giant Eagle in Twinsburg.

Norma Menchaca-Goodwin of Hillsboro
is smiling pretty after winning $50,000
on $10 Break the Bank. She purchased
her winning ticket from Cheap Tobacco

Christopher Belcher of Grove City won
$50,000 a year for 20 years in the top
prize drawing for Ohio Millions. He’s
looking to purchase new cars for himself
and his wife, and now his wife will be
able to reduce her work schedule to
part-time. He purchased his winning
ticket at a Columbus-area Kroger’s.

Chris Crosby of Van Wert and his mom
Debra have a little fun at the Toledo
office after he won the Rolling Cash
5 jackpot drawn July 24. Chris used
a handful of quarters to purchase the
winning ticket, turning those quarters
into $182,000. He’s going to take his
mom on a balloon ride – it’s on her
bucket list.

August 2016
For six years, Dennis Garrett of
Gallipolis rewarded himself each day by
buying a Lottery ticket. It’s paid off after
winning $20,000 on $10 Monopoly
Millionaire’s Club. He’s going to use
the win for home repairs. He purchased
his winning ticket from Quick Stop in
Jackson.

Mark Harris of Middletown claimed a
cool $20,000 playing the Lottery’s $10

pictured with his wife Brandy, made his
claim at the Cincinnati regional office.

Anthony Kimball of Lancaster was in
such shock he was shaking when he
visited the Athens regional office. He
won $20,000 playing the Lotter’s $10
instant game, 50x The Money. He plans
to share the win with his parents and
pay off a portion of his student loans.

Lancaster Speedway.

Lillie Casaway of Chester, WV matched

Gary Pagano, the owner of Shoreway Beverage in Sheffield Lake,
knows a thing or two about Lottery customers. After opening the
store on a recent sunny day, coffee cup in hand, he goes behind
the counter to get the register and paperwork in order. Now, he’s
ready for the day.

Gary’s known for paying attention to detail, whether it’s building
rapport with customers or accounting for Lottery sales and his
instant ticket inventory.
“He knows his customers,” says Lottery sales representative Kelly
Krause. “…He’s just a likeable person.”
Gary wants to know his customers and makes a point of serving
them at the counter. He is not a fan of vending machines like
some other retailers.
“Machines can’t build rapport, but human beings do,” Gary says.
“I try to be personable. I want people to walk up to me and play.
I’m ‘Johnny on the spot.’”
After 30 years in business, including 23 years as an owner, he’s
seen how instant games have taken over as a large part of many
retailers’ Lottery business. He keeps track of each instant game he
sells, documenting sales by day for the month on a separate piece
of paper, comparing those records to his Lottery sales reports.
Instant sales make up about 70 percent of his Lottery business.
Gary recently added a Keno monitor to improve sales and
generate general awareness of Lottery games. He calls the
monitor colorful and attractive – and it’s getting his customers’
attention. While Keno sales are a relatively small part of his
business, he likes the uptick he’s seen in Keno since the monitor’s
installation in July. Keno sales are up about 80%, and he feels
that the store benefits from jackpot reminders that rotate on the
screen.
His goal for the upcoming year is to make his business more
accommodating to Lottery customers. He’s looking to add a small
table and stool that customers can use if they’d like to play for a
while and chat with him.
“It’s the personal touch,” says Gary.

LOTTERY OBSERVATIONS
About instants. Gary, who sells a lot of instant games,
believes that there is still a market for $1 games. He
calls $1 games a good introduction to the Lottery and
he says, especially during the holidays, “the biggest gift
given.” Still, he believes that the trend for higher priced
instant games will
continue.
